Hawaii Travel advice needed

Greetings!

My wife and I are planning a trip to Hawaii next May.

I need some advice. Would it be better to book a hotel for a whole week, and always have to come back there each night to sleep … OR … Book a couple of nights at several hotels on different islands and go “hopping”? The latter requires “Packing up and moving” many times.

Would it be better to rent a car, take a taxi / uber, bus? Suggestions?

Last thought … This is mainly for visitors, and not residents, but I would like to hear your opinions as well …
When you visited …
What was your favorite experience / attraction / activity?
Was there something that you didn’t get to do, but wished you had?
Was there something that you did that you wished you hadn’t?
If you got to go back again, what would be the first thing you would want to do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Feel free to tag others who might be in the know! The more opinions we have, the better the experience we hope it will be!

Thank you in advance!

Have a better day!

@dolfinmagikpro ,

It depends on which island(s) you plan to stay - how long do you want to visit? Where are you flying from? What do you like to do? What is your budget?

I live in San Francisco so for me 5 -7 days is enough for just one island, and I fly over at least once a year to visit family.

If you travel outside of Oahu (Honolulu), your best bet is to rent a car because the islands are big and public transportation and riding a bike for transportation isn’t a great option.

Package deals (hotel/air) are are the best if you aren’t flying using miles. Prices can vary between islands (flying to Oahu will always be the cheapest compared to flying to the other islands), time of year (if school is out, prices will be higher), etc.

If you are a Costco member, the best car rental deals are found on their site compared with going direct to the car rental site or an online travel site, such as Expedia.com, Travelocity.com, Booking.com, etc.

Cheers,

Karen
