I was lucky to spend some quality time there in the fall of 2018. A little back drop to this story. About 10 years ago we were lucky enough to meet a great couple from the Boston area on a cruise. We immediately hit it off and became great friends for life. We have cruised with them 7 times over the years and planned our vacations around this. We booked a fall cruise that started in Boston, stops in Bar Harbor Maine, 2 stops in Nova Scotia Canada, Prince Edward Island, known as P.E.I. Canada and finishing in Quebec City Canada. Unfortunately our friends could not go on this cruise.
The fortunate thing was they invited us to stay at their home for 3 days before our cruise started and they promised us a chance to see Boston from a local point of view. We jumped at the chance.
We jumped on a tour bus which stopped at all the best local sites of downtown Boston.
You could get off and on whenever you wanted and a new bus came around every 20 mins. We stopped first at the USS Constitution museum. The history was amazing, we toured the ship and the museum.
I got to see the Bobby Orr Hockey Statue, commemorating the winning goal that won the Boston Bruins the Stanley cup ,he was my favourite hockey player and many years later I got to be his body guard for a day.( that’s another story)
I am a bit of an architectural buff and loved the way The old buildings in Boston were incorporated with new. The History of the city is amazing
.I didn’t know but the first subway system in North America was built in Boston.
We visited the Faneuil Hall and Quincy hall are which is downtown, great for shopping, eating and people watching.
They too us to some well known Boston eating establishments . Mikes pastries and the famous Sam Lagrassa’s sandwich bar . The best corned beef sandwich I have ever had.We visited Eataly In the Prudential center where you can buy anything Italian to do with food. And we had to go to Boston Burger where the burgers are enormous and delicious and you need 4 hands to eat them.
The day before we left Steven my friend surprised us . We were going to Fenway Park the home of the Boston Red Sox Baseball team who happened to be playing my team The Toronto Blue Jays, he knew one of the coaches and we got premium seats right behind home plate. Unfortunately Boston won. But I did get to cross off visiting Fenway Park from my Bucket list. It’s so steeped in history.
There is so much to see and do in Boston , the people are friendly and yes they do have a peculiar Bostonian accent, we loved it there and would love to re visit, if you get the chance please visit.
