Welcome to improved Connect 3.0
Hello Local Guides
Hope you are doing great & busy with new Connect .
Today I‘m sharing with you a tourist attraction which is very popular for people around Barishal and tourists from different parts of the country. The reason why this place is so popular among the people of Barisal is that it takes a long distance to reach this Sundarban mangrove forest, but the people of Barisal can easily visit from here to get a feel of the Sundarbans, and the tour can be completed in a day.
You can visit the Haringhata Eco Park (but official name is Harinbaria Tourism Centre) in South Barguna to be fascinated by the natural forest. This forest area is essentially a part of the Sundarbans, home to a variety of rare and familiar Plants and Wildlife. If you want to enter here, you must buy a ticket from this office. The ticket price is 12 taka 50 paisa. Besides, you have to give some information like your phone number and address.
The Baleshwar, Bishkhali and Payra rivers flow through the forest, which join the Bay of Bengal. Apart from the mechanical life, while enjoying the beauty of nature in the birdcage, you may see various wild animals including deer, monkeys or pigs. There is a Hanging Bridge here to see the immense beauty of nature.
The river bank can be reached by a path through the green forest. Tourists can visit the forest by boat if they wish. Engine driven boats are available which are locally known as trawlers and these are safe for me with 7 to 8 people on them. They hire by the hour where they ask 1000 taka for an hour. I think 500 taka is value for money if there are 6-7 people in the group but you will get a bargain. Even though I have not been on the boat because there were only three of us in the group so it felt like an over express to me. Besides, you can soak your body in the estuary of three rivers and taste the sea, or you can cross the Baleshwar river and go to the Sundarbans. Haringhata tourist center also has good picnic facilities.
How to go
-
Fare per person to go directly from Sayedabad to Patharghata by bus is Tk 700-750 non AC bus. (Some popular bus companies : Sakur, Shyamoli, Unique, Hanif & Green line.) From Patharghata bus stand, take a motorcycle to Haringhata Eco park and it will cost 50 taka.
-
You can also go by launch (Although you can not directly reach Haringhata by launch) going to Barguna or Barishal.
I would suggest to come from Dhaka Launch Terminal to Barishal Launch Terminal by lunch and then take a bus to Patharghata Nathullabad BRTC counter or Rupatoli Bus Tarminal . An hourly bus leaves for Patharghata from Barisal, the fare there is Tk 200-250. Patharghata can be easily reached by renting a motorbike from the Barguna launch and going down to Kakchira Ghat. It takes 30 minutes to go to Haringhata by bike from Patharghata. Reserve vehicles are also available from Barguna city.
Where will you stay
There are not many accommodation options in Haringhata, but there are government postal bungalows and a few residential hotels in Patharghata. If you want, you can go back to Barguna city. You can explore different places in Barguna town and there are quite a few upscale residential hotels for overnight stays but Haringhata has nothing to explore at night.
Where to eat
Haringhata does not have good food facilities for tourist, so it will be best to carry essential food from Patharghata. Being close to the sea, the restaurants in Patharghata offer a variety of items including seafood.
Thank you so much for reading my post.
