Harbhajan Singh: The Soldier Who Continued His Duty After Death

In a cricket-loving country like India, the names of many real heroes got lost in the pages of history. Today, I want to share one of those names, a soldier who serves our motherland and protects our borders even after his death.

Sir Harbhajan Singh was born on 30 August 1946 in the village of Sadrana (then in Punjab, now in Pakistan). He joined the Indian Army on 9 February 1966, at age 20, in the 23rd Battalion, Punjab Regiment.

When we visited his temple, it was a great experience; we could hear the patriotic songs being played there. When we stepped inside the temple, it was prayer time, and we participated in the prayer.

The army personnel mentioned a spiritual water that anyone can drink for 21 days, which can help alleviate any medical problem. However, during this period, non-vegetarian food must be avoided. We bought a big bottle of that water. Then, there was a mini diary for us to write our wishes and submit; we bought that too.

An army personnel started narrating the story of brave soldier Harbhajan Singh, and we gathered there. He told on 04 October 1968, when Harbhajan Singh was doing his duty near Nathu La in Sikkim, at around 14,000 ft altitude, while escorting a mule column carrying supplies, he reportedly slipped on a glacier and fell into a fast-flowing stream.

Despite a large search, his body was missing for days; many soldiers later reported that he appeared in a fellow soldier’s dream and revealed the exact location of his body. Following his guidance given in a dream, the search team recovered his body from the glacier, and he was cremated with full military honours in his hometown.

Many Indian soldiers claimed he appeared in their dreams, warning of enemy activity or danger in advance. Due to all these, a shrine was built in his honour in the 1980s. At the Indo-China border, both Indian and Chinese soldiers claimed to see him patrolling to date. Chinese troops reportedly salute his spirit during flag meetings.

An unusual activity happened with us at this temple. I remember when we entered there; the time was around 11:30 AM. After almost 30-40 minutes, when I checked my analog watch, it was not working. My mobile and my mother’s mobile were showing the time 01:40 PM. We were shocked that so much time had passed. Soon we came out.

When we travelled almost 6-7 km away from the temple, we checked the time, and it was 12:40 PM; we were shocked. In this case, there are spiritual and scientific reasons, and I believe both. The scientific reason is probably that our electronic devices got connected to the GPS satellite of China as we were near the border, and many times, analog devices stopped working at so high altitudes.

I request every local guide around the world to read the story of this brave soldier. JAI HIND :india:
