Hamilton Food Crawl

Hamilton Food Crawl

Hamilton

Hamilton, ON, Canada

April 13, 2019 @ 13:00 (EDT)

Hi there! My name is Lara. I’m new to the area and wanted to organize a fun food crawl to get to know the area, meet new people, and try some good food!

We will be visiting a few local restaurants and trying small dishes/appetizers at each one. We’ll take photos along the way so we can write reviews and share the photos on Google Maps!

Here’s the route I planned out for us, in order:

  • Berkeley North

  • The Mule

  • Toast Wine Bar

  • Sugar Marmalade

I will call the restaurants ahead of time to see if we need to make reservations or if we can just come in as a group to these locations. This is not a sponsored event. The event is free admission, and we will all pay individually for our food.

When you arrive at our first location (Berkley North), I’ll be there early waiting for you with name tags and stickers for everyone! I’ll also have a presentation to give if anyone has questions about the process of writing reviews for Google Maps as a Local Guide, but if we’re all familiar with it then we can skip it.

Bring whatever you need to feel comfortable - your phone to take pictures of our food for reviews, comfortable shoes for walking since we’ll be walking between locations, etc.

Afterwards, I’ll create a Google Photos album for anyone who would like to add their photos so we can all enjoy the memories of the experience. I’ll also share a recap on the Local Guides Connect board.

Looking forward to exploring the area and trying new food together!

Hey everyone, I hope some of you are able to attend! I’m excited to try these places I’ve never been to. Also if anyone has tips for spreading the word on Local Guides Connect, I’m happy to hear them. Looking forward to my first event!

I’m happy to say that we had a really fun time on my first Local Guides event!! We felt like we lucked out on the new places we chose to visit since we’d never been to them and we didn’t know anyone who had been to these restaurants before. We also had good sunny weather so it was a good day for walking.

We started out at Berkeley North like planned, and we were delighted! It was the perfect place to start at, with a beautiful cozy design and incredible food. We couldn’t have been happier with the dishes we ordered, and we especially recommend their sourdough toast and their Berkeley North salad with falafel. We didn’t anticipate how amazing these places would be, so we stayed there much longer than expected to enjoy our food before moving on to The Mule down the street.

This proved to be another mind-blowing food experience, where again we stayed much longer than expected! If you love tacos (and who doesn’t?) this is your local go-to spot. Everything we ordered exceeded our expectations and was mouthwatering - we would have gladly bought large portions of their guacamole and “the cease and desist” ground beef tacos to take home! All their tacos and other dishes like whitefish ceviche and guac was bursting with rich, complex flavour. Don’t skip their dessert either - the chocolate and caramel dish we got was great, especially since it wasn’t overly sweet and you could actually taste the cocoa. We also received amazing service here and felt at home, and their margarita pitcher is well worth it and splits perfectly in a small group!

By the time we finished there, we were much fuller than we planned to be even though none of us had ordered large dishes at either place, and we didn’t have room for any more food. So we skipped the last two places but ended the crawl with a lovely walk around the neighbourhood, passing by the two other restaurants we planned to go to, which we will definitely visit soon. This also got us a bit more acquainted with the area and we scouted out other places we’d like to try out next time.

We had an amazing time together even though it was just a few of us. The fact that we couldn’t finish our plotted route spoke to how extremely satisfied we were at the first two places and how we couldn’t resist trying several dishes at each spot since they were so great. If you’re ever in the area, we all highly recommend you try out Berkeley North and The Mule (they’re about a thirty second walk away from each other too!). The street they were on wasn’t far from affordable parking and public transit either, so it’s a great place to walk around and get to know the city a bit more and discover some interesting places. This experience inspired all of us to take that chance and go out and explore a new place wherever we go - you can find beautiful places no matter where you are.

P.S. I’m not sure why some of the photos are loading sideways - the files aren’t sideways on my computer, and there’s no feature in the editing tools on here to flip them. Hope you still enjoy the photos of the dishes we enjoyed on our crawl though!
