Hajiganj fort is located in Kellarpool area of Narayanganj district. The fort was built during the Mughal Empire. Today I will share with you the history of Hajiganj fort and the story of travel.
History: 1610-1850 A.D. This fort was built inside this time. The construction of the fort was completed during the Mughal Empire under the leadership of Subahdar Islam Khan. This fort is about 400 years old.
Architecture: The fort, quadrangular in size, consists of a pentagonal curtain wall machicolated for muskets with rounded corner bastions. On the inner side of the curtain wall there is 1.22m heigh rampart walkway from the base of the curtain wall which is itself pierced by several musketry holes. The holes are wider meant probably for ‘gun firing at the pirates proceeding up the river’. In a corner of the fort enclosure there is a tall free standing square column of brick which must have been used for observation and placing guns in the rainy season. (Information Source: Wikipedia)
My Journey: As it was a holiday on Friday 21st August 2020, I left home for Hajiganj fort visit in the morning. As I approached the fort, I saw the huge wall of the fort. The gate of the fort is a short distance away. As soon as I entered through the main gate, I saw a huge green field. Green grass are all around the field. There is a huge tree on the right side of the field. The size of the tree suggests that the tree is quite old. I looked around every corner of the fort. I finished my journey in the afternoon times.
Where I got lost: The witness of tomorrow was once the mouthpiece of the soldiers in this fort. Over time, that is likely to change. But the fort remains a Mughal Empire witness of history among us.
How to you go: From Dhaka Gulistan to Narayanganj bus service available. You take a bus from Gulistan & down to Narayanganj Chashara. Then you can reach Kellarpool Hajiganj fort directly by rickshaw or auto rickshaw.
