Gwangmyeong Cave has tragic background from history but now it is open to public with new face.
It had been exploited from 1912 to 1945(Japanese occupation period) until the WWII ended. Lots of gold were exploited and many young local men were passed away here while working as forced labors. It had been closed as a mine, for a long time and local city authorities retrieved from the last owner and open to public.
It has pretty entrance which leads you to the space of light. Then you can enjoy laser show inside, small aquarium for kids, horror zone(separate ticket for this zone), a water pond which miners used to drink, golden plaque wishing place, water fall, and some other various spaces. There is wine bar also where you can taste some local wines. Since the cave is perfect place to reserve the wines, you can find nice local wines inside of the cave.
In order to reach to the cave, you can hike from the Gahak mountain(1 hour or more), you can also walk the path beside the mountain(30 min walk), you can drive, of course and you can take public transport(taxi or subway+ bus). It is located suburb of Seoul, it is easy to get there by metro and by bus from the metro stop.
Near the Cave, there are two other interesting spots to visit, one is small museum of local poet, and another is a sort of old heritage.
As one day trip, or half day trip from Seoul, it would be fun.
