The Gurudwara Majnu ka Tila Sahib is one of the most significant places of worship in Delhi. The place gets its name after a mound where a boatman called Majnu, who used to ferry people across the Yamuna River for free, met Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of the Sikh religion.
In 1783, Baba Baghel Singh built the Gurudwara commemorating the stay of Guru Nanak Dev. The sixth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Gobind Singh also stayed here for some time.
I reached here from Gurugram by Delhi Metro Yellow Line and deboarded at the Vidhan Sabha station, then piled up in a tuk-tuk that took me to the Gurudwara Chowk Signal for INR 10.
There is ample parking outside and also a huge park adjacent to the Gurudwara. There are spacious toilets, a shoe stand, and also a counter for Khada Prasad. The Langar or free food is available on the backside of the Gurudwara.
This is the well where Emporer Aurangazeb in an attempt to insult Sikh Guru Ramdev Rai spread a cloth sheet on the well opening and asked him to sit on it. Guru Ramdev Rai comfortably sat on the cloth sheet and yet did not fell into the well. Thus Aurangazeb had to swallow his pride. This was only one of the 72 miracles that Guru Ramdev Rai showed at this place.
A souvenir shop and a cool lassi shop are near the entrance of the Gurudwara on the main road.
Also don’t miss the view of River Yamuna on the backside across a beautiful flowerbed.
