I think Vulkaneifel in Germany is also interesting. I hope I can go there someday.

Oh wow!!! This is such a fascinating post @ALG87

There are lots of links which I find to be really useful and I love that the photos you shared are also large which allows me to zoom in and look at the details on a computer!! Thanks very much for sharing these!

And I was looking at Mount Merapi and it’s quite crazy how people are living so close to an active volcano! I can understand that the soil is very fertile and I can see lots of farms set up around the slopes but hopefully there will not be any casualties in the future!

For anyone interested, check out the screenshots below of Mount Merapi.

You can see roads and buildings on the slopes!

@MortenCopenhagen do you know what those blue lines are? I initially wondered if they were like streams but I don’t think so. I looked at the satellite overlap and can’t see any geographical feature to match the blue lines.

Oh, and I was looking at Mount Bromo and saw this photo on Maps.. wow!

Hi @AdrianLunsong! Thanks a lot for reading my post and paying attention to the photos

I really hope so, because the last major eruption in October-November 2010 was so devastating and more than 350 people passed away. At that time, the mitigation and evacuation plans had been prepared for the specific radius (measured from the summit) set by the government. Unfortunately, the pyroclastic flow travelled beyond the radius (11,5 km) and struck the residential area.

Dukuh Plalangan is located on the northern slope of Mount Merapi (you can see the pinpoint of “New Selo”) and it is really close to the summit.

Yes, the blue lines are streams and most of them are match to the real streams. The stream pattern is radial because their sources originate at the summit.

I love that photo, too. Bromo looks majestic and surreal.

Hi @AdrianLunsong and @ALG87

Those blue lines are not something I have come across before.

But if you take a look here and turn on the terrain layer you can see this

To me this looks very much like the lines are related to changes in elevation. The grey areas look pretty much like shadows between the blue lines.

Hi, @MortenCopenhagen
Thanks for visiting this post.

Yes, the grey areas are the ravine sides of the river. Greater gray intensity indicates a steeper elevation difference.

@ALG87 What incredible places! Every time I see new posts from the community, I realize how vast the world is at our feet, and that there are places we never imagined existed. I’m enchanted by these locations.

You are right! It is possible that even many hidden places remain untouched by humans.

@ALG87 This is a lovely landscape! beautiful!

but then that means that volcano areas have better crops? I had never heard about it, but it makes sense absolutely! I’ll have to find out if Mexico (my country) also takes advantage of volcanic soils…

I had heard about the Krakatoa volcano, but I didn’t know it’s located in Indonesia. Thank you for your detailed post and for your useful info during Indonesian Spotlight week.

See you soon!

Thanks for visiting my article, @cuicani!

Yes, it is really beautiful.
You’re right, the soil is more fertile because of the volcanic ashes which act as the natural fertilizer. Some articles mention about the relation between volcanic soil and the growth of agave, especially in the state of Jalisco and Guanajuato.

Yes. Actually, the real Krakatoa (Krakatau) has been submerged due to 1883 eruption. Nowadays, what we can see is actually Anak Krakatau (in English: Son of Krakatau).

See you soon!

Iya, Pak.
