The Gum Wall in the post alley of Seattle is hands down the filthiest tourist place on planet earth.
It is located right across the street from the Green Tortoise Hostel where I stayed during my visit to Seattle in June 2023.
The car in the photo below is going towards the Gum Wall in a Post alley. An alley in the US is a narrow street, which is usually a one-way street.
This wall is located in the Post Alley of the Pike Marketplace area of Seattle.
It is both a unique and weird place but disgusting.
But tourist flock here in hordes and I joined them too.
The reputation of this wall was irresistible not to pay a visit.
It is a long narrow alley with chewed gums stuck to the wall over the years.
Although it is gross, people continue this tradition even today, then take selfies in front of the wall.
If you have a sensitive nose, I advise to carry a face mask, because the alley was so stinky.
I must admit that the Post Alley was not sanitary, but there was an undeniable allure to the Great Gum Wall of Seattle.
It was a bit disgusting but an incredibly captivating sight.
How To Reach
The Post Alley is in the Pike Marketplace area, opposite the Green Tortoise Hostel where I stayed.
So, I simply walked across the street to reach it.
Also, read my previous post on how to reach the Pike Marketplace from the Seattle Airport for $3
Where to Stay
I stayed in the Green Tortoise Hostel that was studded with features, yet very economical rates.

Yes, I do fully agree with you, dear @TusharSuradkar .
I have heard/read about this place earlier.
Of course, with all the negatives, most of the tourists visit there - true.
How much time could you afford to stand there?
I’m sure, even with a face mask, I can’t stand there…
Well, your post is very informative… With excellent photos.
Thanks for sharing,

The smell was too strong to bear so I just clicked photos as I walked and got over it to tick off another wish list item on the itinerary for Seattle.
Elsewhere I had seen people tying knots or locks to trees to wish something comes true which is more acceptable.
or at some other place I have read about people throwing sandals and slippers at a tree where it gets stuck for ever. Poor tree.
But this tradition of sticking gums defies all logic. This is senseless according to me @TravellerG yet here I am writing about it

That is true about certain attractions… Even if it is stupid, still we do it… It is not your mistake… Even I did it many times…

Ich empfinde diese Straße als sehr eklig und wundere mich mal wieder auf welche Ideen Menschen so kommen, unfassbar.
