Gujarati food

Khaman is a food from the Gujarat state of India. It is a very popular Gujarati snack in India.
Khaman with mustard seeds, green chillies and coriander leaves on top. Served with green and red chutney.

Khaman is made from freshly ground channa daal or channa gram flour. Some of the main ingredients used in baking khaman are lemon juice, semolina, and curd. A final tadka can be added, using ingredients such as asafoetida and chillies.

Hello @Dinesh_chauhan and Welcome to Local Guides Connect. As I belongs to a Gujrati Family,

Before I was just familiar with Dhokla as a Gujrati Dish, and we often enjoy it in Summers here in Karachi, but Khaman is bit new for me, and it looks tempting and delicious. Maybe someday I can learn to prepare it and try it my home. Or maybe Tejal can teach me how to prepare it

Thanks for sharing, and I hope we can see some more Gujrati dishes here with all procedure to prepare it.

Shukriya

Hi @Dinesh_chauhan

Welcome to Connect

The Khaman looks delicious and irresistible.

Is Khaman an alternative word for Dhokala?

We use Khaman as an adjective for Dhokala, like Khaman Dhokala.

There was a time when I lived in Pune and used to consume Dhokala almost daily, and we also make Dhokala at home regularly.

Out here in Delhi, Dhokala is virtually unknown.

Looking forward to more such interesting posts…

Thank you for sharing delicious Khaman with us @Dinesh_chauhan , it’s my all time favourite item.

Khaman and Dhokla are different, Khaman is very soft and spongy, while Dhokla is a little hard @TusharSuradkar ji.

Hello @Dinesh_chauhan ,

Thank you for sharing these photos with us, the meal looks very delicious!

Looks like the perfect dish for vegetarians! Is there a variation of this meal where meat is included?

Is this dish famous in restaurants as well, or mainly a home made one?

It seems that you like taking pictures of your dishes, I suggest these helpful articles, where you can find useful suggestions: The lighting tip that makes food look delicious and 5 tips to consider when styling food.

Thanks for the tag @Dinesh_chauhan and I would guess that it’s also similar to @Pratik_89 dish that you can read here. Is this a dish that is popular at this time of the year? India has lots of food that I’m so unfamiliar with… all the Indian food that we get in the restaurants here in UK/Malaysia is probably just a slice of all the different types that you can get locally!

Thanks for sharing and looking forward to more! Oh, and it would help me if you could describe the taste and texture too. From Pratik’s post, I know that it’s savoury, spicy, fluffy! Well, I hope I’m correct!
