I live in a Winnebago View and travel all over North America. I love Google Maps and am a regular contributor of reviews and photography. I hike a lot and often find trails that are not on the map.
For example, I am at Juniper Campground in Utah and there is this fantastic trail that includes a 3D archery section and I would love to be able to click a button, walk the trail, click a button and save the walk as the trail then add photos from along the way.
I know Google has pivoted away from altruistic efforts toward profit, but map content has value. Twice recently I have had people with Apple maps who had content I didn’t on my Android.

Hi @EbunTom
You could use the procedure described in the Google documentation Create travel routes or areas of interest to create hiking trails. Also, here are some example hiking trails created on Maps

Hi @EbunTom
I agree with you. Adding trails to Google Maps is missing and needs to be added as a new feature. Preferably so that navigation along such trails will be possible for at least pedestriants and people riding bicycles.
Adding trails on Google Earth and as My Maps as @AdamGT shared links to is not a really good solution.
May I suggest you also post this in the Idea Exchange so it has a chance to gain traction by getting votes from other local guides.
Cheers

There is no other way at the moment @MortenCopenhagen and @EbunTom so this is why I suggested you use Google Earth or My Maps as shown in the links I provided.

I appreciate the suggestion Adam, but I cannot just draw an accurate representation of a trail without seeing the path I walked. I’d need a cartographer degree and significant equipment to do that well.
Hi @EbunTom
Yes unfortunately it is this way. After giving this some more thought, why don’t you try putting your treks in list form. If you browse through my Connect posts you will see that I have travelled and trekked in many places around the world and while I have to admit there are some issues, I created Lists of some of these places. Check out these couple of small examples: Journey to the Holy Grail (Petra) and Milford Sound: 8th Wonder of the World. What I like about his approach is that as well as the pin locations of the points on your list being shown on Maps, your descriptions and photos are also shown
As you can see in the first example, as well as giving a general idea of the trail path, the feature locations whiletrekking through the “Lost City of Petra”, hidden deep in the shimmering Arabian desert to reach Treasury and the Nabatean amphitheatre are shown on the Maps as pins. While not a trek, the second example shows the path and features at each location when we sailed in Milford Sound, New Zealand.
