‘Paneer Tikka’ is popular with vegetarians, folks who don’t eat meat. Generally Tikka is cooked in ‘Tandoor’, we can use stove top grill to cook at home. (or BBQ grill can be used as well)
My version of recipe is pretty simple. Instead of running around for several Indian spices. I just use ‘Shan Tandoori chicken Masala’ This pretty much contains everything including salt.
Cup of Yogurt
Shan Tandoori Chicken Masala
Turmeric (for color)
Ginger/Garlic Paste [Optional, I did not use this time]
Kasoori Methi (Sun dried Fenu Greek Leaves) [Optional, don’t sweat it if you don’t have this]
Cilantro
Bell Peppers (use red/yellow/green, stuff looks good for pictures)
Paneer [This is a fresh cheese common in Indian subcontinent, Most Indian grocery stores carry this, so you don’t have to make it at home! We generally used make this at home, but used a store bought one this time, it turned out pretty good]
Marinate the above ingredients at least for 2-3 hrs, (overnight is even better)
You can directly grill them on a stove top grill or make skewers as shown in the picture. Either way turns out great. You don’t have to cook too long, Wait till you get some grill marks (10-15 mins), your Paneer Tikka will be ready.
Generally Paneer Tikka is consumed with Green Chutney (Cilantro + Green Chillis + Mint + Cumin + salt +…), if you don’t have chutney don’t worry, you can eat it without chutney too.
this is my favorite item on the indian restaurant menus! thanks for sharing, will try if I find paneer anywhere… question: can i use firm tofu or any other kind of cheese instead of paneer would it work? thanks!
@jayasimha78 Someone is a master chef at home for sure! Thanks for taking part again! I love paneer! It’s got a nice texture to it and I think it makes for a nice alternative to meat dishes! Thanks for sharing this recipe! I haven’t been braved enough to try out cooking many Indian dishes mainly because I’ve tried making a curry once and it just wasn’t working at all! Plus, the list of spices used are super long! Lol!
@AdrianLunsong There is always a short cut to Indian cooking. Easiest way to make curry, just buy MDH Chicken Curry powder (or other brands will do too) which has all ingredients. You just need onions and tomatoes to make basic curry (of course some Ginger and garlic paste). List is already growing
@jayasimha78 I think it’s me putting in too many different types of spices without fully appreciating what they do and how much to put in. So the end result is still a curry but nothing like I’ve tasted from a restaurant!
