GRASS CUTTER ON THE VERGE OF EXTINCTION

Road Trip to Lafia: Episode II

Now I can settle down for a plate of pounded yam at the boarder town between Benue and Nassarawa States. The place is called Kadorko in Keana LGA with thin line boundary with Doma LGA ‘as the crow flies’ .

It will interest you to know that the town is not a Tiv speaking local government of Nassarawa, but dominated by the Tiv People. More interestingly, the Tiv Settlers there are from distant LGs in Benue (Katsina Ala, Vandeikya, Ukum, etc) and not from Guma their neighbouring LG (You may choose to ask ‘Why’, but no space).

This spot is well known for their delicious delicacy of pounded yam and local soup. When next you are on a road trip, kindly help yourself.

But the major problem is that they sell alot of grass cutter smoked meat. These grass cutters are going into extinct in Benue because of constant hunting. Most of their catch is now coming from far away Gombe and Adamawa States of Nigeria.

If care is not taken, these beautiful ones will be extinct in no distant time.
