Grace in Stone: A Glimpse of Swaminarayan Mandir, New Jersey

Although I never personally visited, I was deeply moved by the photos shared with me of the Swaminarayan Mandir in New Jersey—the largest functioning Hindu temple outside of Bhārata. The intricate carvings throughout the complex are truly awe-inspiring; every inch is adorned with elaborate, detailed designs, showcasing extraordinary craftsmanship.

The temple was constructed using marble from Bhārata, Greece, Italy, and Turkey, as well as granite from Bhārata, Rajasthani sandstone, and limestone from Bulgaria and Turkey. While phot

ography is strictly prohibited inside—where some of the most breathtaking carvings are found—the exterior alone speaks volumes of the temple’s grandeur.
