Gopinath Temple Shri Gopinath Temple is one of the oldest Shiv Temple in Gopeshwar. This is only the temple where Mahadevji in the form of a woman (Gopi). So that is behind the story of the name Gopeshwar Town in Uttarakhand. The Temple established in 9th to 11th century by Katyuri’s dynasty.
There is a huge Trishul (Trident) around the temple about 5 meter heights and made of 8 different metals. Gopeshwar Trishul (Trident) explained the Naag dynasty names inscribed Skand Naga, Vibhu Naga and Ganpati Naga. Ashokchalla, malla dynasty of Nepal also inscribed in the Trishul.
Very old temple with Nagara style architecture surrounded by Himalayan Range. When the doors of the fourth Kedar, Rudranath temple are closed in winter, the movable Vigraha Doli of Lord Rudranath is brought to the Gopinath temple. In this temple, along with Lord Gopinath, Lord Rudranath is also worshiped in winter. To reach Gopinath Temple. When returning from Kedarnath and also planning for Badrinath via Ukhimath, Chopta, then the Gopinath Temple is on the route. At present nearest railway station is Rishikesh. But by the year 2026-27 railway line project of Rishikesh Karnaprayag estimated to be completed then the nearest railway station will be Karnaprayag which is 50-60 km away from Gopinath Mandir (Gopeshwar).
