I finally made it to Tungnath Temple and the moment I stepped onto the trail, I knew this wasn’t just another temple visit. The air was crisp, the path softened with moss and mountain dust, and every turn revealed a view that made my pulse race.
The trail to Tungnath is challenging, but rewarding. Every turn brings you closer to sweeping Himalayan panoramas. You get glimpses of snow-clad peaks, clouds drifting into valleys, and the sense of altitude tapping at your chest. After 2-3 hours (depending on your pace, and stops), the temple appears, stone built, ancient, perched high up, with prayer bells.
If you push yourself a little further, From Tungnath one trek goes to Chandrasheela(1.5 KM), the sunrise or sunset from the summit is heavenly.
Tips for First-Timers
-
Start early, Sunrise treks are magical, and fewer people on the trail means more peace. Also helps avoid bad weather.
-
Check the season, The temple is closed during heavy winter/snow months.
-
Wear proper trekking shoes, grip, ankle support, waterproof helps a lot.
-
Layer up, As altitude increases, temperatures drop fast. Early morning and late evening can be cold even in summer.
-
Carry sufficient water & snacks, Food shops are limited along the trail. Energy bars or something light help.
-
Waste management Take your garbage back with you. Avoid single-use plastic where possible.
-
Pace yourself, The climb can catch you off guard. Take breaks, enjoy the views, don’t rush.
