This change is part of a broader visual identity evolution, which Google says symbolizes the “surge of AI-driven innovation” across its products, aligning with the look of its Gemini AI.
The icon of Google Maps still remains a pin, but the shape is modernized and thinner. The internal circle is much larger, and the partitions of colors are removed and replaced with a gradient. This change is to reflect the presence of Gemini-powered features in place listings.
What do you think about this new icon? Which one do you prefer?
9to5google is among my list and this morning I read the article.
I do understand the need of “refreshing” a logo a pin or an image but, this time, I do not like it. Too psychedelic for me. Anyway I’'ll update my T-shirt and hats for the next summer
After reading your post, I tried to recall (without looking) the current logo, and I failed. So in my case, as long as the basic shape remains the same, they could change it every week and I probably would not even notice….
