Interesting, version 120.0.6099.130 is working sporadically. The same with the latest version of Firefox.
In contrast, when I was performing troubleshooting last week, the error persisted.
Maybe Google is (finally) looking into this and working on a fix?

It appears the issue is almost 100% resolved. I still get the error but not as often. Clicking “retry” will work the second time. Let’s see how long this lasts!

@SandmanT Sadly no such luck here. I’ve not rolled Chrome back (laziness on my part), but I still can’t make edits on Google Maps in Chrome. No issues with Mozilla FireFox for now I’m just doing my maps stuff on FireFox. I shall remain patient (and hopeful)! 
@JamesHogg Argh. Well, FF isn’t working for me. Google is definitely doing things under the hood, probably not in a good way either. Edge is my backup now. However, I was successful moments ago with an edit using Chrome. .
