Google Maps crashing after each contribution today

I added a lot of missing info today and I’m scared if I uninstalled then reinstalled I would lose what I have done on my Pixel. Am I safe to uninstall then reinstall maps? Are others having the same issue today?

The system is running as expected on my end, @SWAmerica .

From your expertise is it safe for me to uninstall and reinstall Google maps and save the contributions that I put in today? It shows a check mark that I put in the missing info but from a point standpoint it doesn’t show that I did anything. Your thoughts?

It would be really helpful if you would use the tagging tool when replying to someone here on Connect. Type @ followed by the username. Type slowly. Then we get an e-mail notification and you are more likely to get a prompt reply.

Every time you make a contribution in Google Maps it is saved in the cloud on Googles many servers immediately. So no contributions are stored on your device. Only cached photos, but they will be downloaded automatically next time you view them. So I would say it is safe to reset you app. I have done it with no problems.

After reset you will need to specify your home address, work place, distance unit and whether your contacts should be shown on your map. Also if you selected a special icon for your home it needs to be selected again. But all of this is pretty easy to fix.

Hello @SWAmerica

It appears you used “Check the facts” or “Uncover missing info” for an extended duration making a lot of contributions.

If that’s so then I had a similar experience of the app breaking frequently.

I used to verify the translation suggestions and then the app would crash after reviewing some 25-30 POIs.

I used the send feedback route to inform that. However, it seems such insignificant issues do not grab any attention.

There are many such minor bugs and rare to come across as no one does a stress test of the app for contributions!

Another bug is, if we make a series of edits then the processor heats up. The keyboard stops responding and ultimately the app crashes.

But then, I restart the app after some time and I do not notice any loss in contributions.

In this way, there is no need to uninstall the app. Restart that and start using as usual

Further, the contributions are stored on remote servers. At most, you will lose the last one at the instance of the crash.

Additionally, all our data is stored on the servers. Even if we reinstall the app or make a factory reset, no damage happens to our data.

This, there wouldn’t be any need to respecify our home or work locations after a reinstall.

I am considering an uninstall and reinstall because since long time the app has become slow, it heats the phone unbearably, often stops working and my contributions (mainly photos) are not posting smoothly. App storage on my device was more than 2.5 GB. I cleaned cache and the storage consumption is now around 1.9 GB. Previously posting on maps has been an absorbing hobby but it has started feeling a scary burden now
