It would be a great help to refine and correct inaccuracies in Google Maps if there were a place to submit corrections similar to the feature to report photos in Maps. I have tried several times to submit information to correct Directions given in Maps by entering the corrections in the area designed to report inappropriate photos, only to get responses stating there was not sufficient information to make the changes requested… although my request included a report on the incorrect photo depicting an image which IS NOT the building at the address in question. The owner of the business has also tried reporting the inaccuracies several times and complained to me that the misleading directions, in particular, have cost him several hours in wages for employees to re-direct lost customers who call in back to the correct location. So it has been more than just a “hassle” to the business owner who’s customers are misdirected AWAY from his location. Thank you for your time and consideration. Please vote for my idea so we can make an important difference as Local Guides in our beloved Google Maps and in the lives and businesses of those who rely on the information it dispenses.
Come on Local Guides!
Don’t you think it a worthwhile idea to be able to correct misinformation in our platform and improve the quality of the information we are responsible for dispensing? After all what good are our contributions if misinformation is allowed to exist unchecked? Isn’t our ability to positively effect the content dispensed in Google Maps at the essence of our entire purpose as Local Guides? Everyone worries about the quality of Perks. However, how can we, in good conscience, concern ourselves with Perks or anything else with regard to Maps, until all the information we provide is or at least has the real possibility of being RELIABLE??? I won’t even feel right until I have, at least, attempted to make it possible to have only correct information be offered on Maps. That said, come on Local Guides! A vote for my idea is an unselfish vote for Local.Guides being a part of a more reliable platform to more reliably serve those who count on the information contained herein. Let’s make Google Maps the BEST IT CAN POSSIBLY BE! If you think it’s important that the information in Google Maps be honest and correct please vote for my idea. And tell your friends…Thank you!

Hello @lenecapers ,
A way to correct wrong and misleading information on Google Maps already exists. As I understand you’ve tried to correct information about directions by using the procedure meant for reporting photos, which will naturally lead to your inquiry being declined like you’ve experienced.
The best way to suggest such corrections is by using the “send feedback” option in your hamburger menu in the top left corner on Google Maps. You’ll find it near the bottom. From here you can choose which road or building you’d like to send feedback regarding.
Since your idea already exists on Google Maps, I have closed it.
@MortenSI I notice that your comment was not to me. You mentioned another guide @benmaharaj
There is not a place to submit corrections for Directions as currently shown in Google Maps. I know this because that is the major issue for at least one place of business (the business to which I am referring which is Precision Glasswork, Inc. in Torrance, California. The address in question is 390 Amapola Ave - Suite #8. The directions may appear to be correct because the lead to a business park that is adjacent to this business except that there is a wall between to two different parks and the address as mentioned above cannot be reached with the directions shown because anyone following the directions currently given in Maps would have to get out of their vehicle or get off their bike, or if walking would still be required to jump, scale repel or otherwise get over the wall between the property where the directions lead to the traveler to in order to get to the business as listed with these incorrect Directions which is Precision Glasswork, Inc. The owner of this business has repeatedly requested, as the only Local Guide he knows, that I help him in getting this problem solved. The incorrect Directions, shown for his business, have cost the business owner untold hours in employee wages to re-direct customers, who call in, to the get to the right location. To add to the confusion the 360 photo shown in Maps for this location is a photo of the business which the incorrect Directions shown lead to. So, people attempting to get to Precision Glasswork follow the wrong directions to another business and when they arrive and can’t find Precision Glasswork, they look at the 360 photo showing in Maps, for Precision Glasswork, Inc. and they see a photo of the business the incorrect Directions lead them to! That’s why I was using the place where you report photos. I was reporting the incorrect 360 photo which, incidently, even shows very clearly the address on the front fascia of the business and the address isn’t the address for Precision Glasswork, Inc. because it’s not even in the same business park, let alone, the right building. So, please, do what you can to see if we can get a PHP dialog box embedded somewhere in that same form on Maps, it would help. Or any place to submit a narrative to give a more accurate and clear description of the problem we are attempting to correct. May I suggest that whomever it is that decides what changes or suggested edits are worth deployment try to do a virtual walk-thru the steps they would take if the Directions showing in Maps, to their business, were incorrect.
I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of making improvements to this very helpful and relied upon platform. I just hope that my contributions are allowed to make a difference where it really counts. Thank you for helping make a difference and going the extra mile so the users of Maps don’t have to.
Hi @lenecapers ,
I apologise for the incorrect tag, however the message was intended for you. It is possible to correct wrongs steps in routes on desktop only. Reporting this vis smartphone is not yet a possibility.
By following Steps to report wrong directions you will be able to flag the exact turn you think is wrong.
@MortenSI Thank you so much for proving me WRONG! I followed the directions you provided here and was able to submit corrections. I submitted as many steps in the correct directions as it allowed me to give. It would still be nice to be able to give additional directions when the steps in the correct direction outnumber the steps in the wrong direction. However, its, at least, some of the steps in the right direction and certainly enough to get the rest. If there are any questions they know where to find me. Thank you for helping me to get this problem corrected once and for all! Yours is by far and away the best reply and best answer to a question I have asked in many ways, many times before. I cannot thank you enough for being the solution to a long standing problem that has translated into a big expense to the subject business owner. You ROCK! Many KUDOS to you @MortenSI
Hi @lenecapers ,
Thank you for the kind words, I’m glad I could be of help to you.
As you got the answer you were looking for, I’ve moved this post to the How-tos section, so other Local Guides who may have similar issues can benefit from the discussion.
If you come up with any ideas for how to improve this process, feel free to post it in the Idea Exchange.
