I have been experiencing some bugs this week with google map. I have saved many places into my lists and I usually remove from the list once I make a visit. Many of the places I have once saved into my lists and later removed from the lists somehow re-appeared as saved places in my lists again without doing anything. I am a heavy user of google map and usually have many places saved, so I am not sure how many of them are automatically back in my lists again without my intension, but I see easily more than 30+ places like that now.
Another bug is that some of the list icons on the map are not possible to be removed from the map. You can see the screen recording of that below: My device is an iOS by the way and everything is up to date.
@ErmesT Is this a known issue? My map is heavily affected and looks really messy now. Do I need to manually check every single icons on the map to see which ones I have previously removed or just wait for the next update to see that will automatically be fixed?
@AkSakei , The same issue has been reported time ago also by @MortenCopenhagen . When it was reported in the past I wasn’t able to confirm that issue. I made a test just now, and the only one that I’m not able to hide is “want to go”, all the others disappear when I selected “hide from the map”
I think I didn’t explain well. The below GIF shows the problem. As I click one of the starred place icons on the map, it only shows the latitude/longitude somehow. Usually if you click an icon like that, the next window should show the place as “Saved” and you can uncheck from the Saved location right from the window. Since it does not happen somehow here, I can not uncheck to remove from the list, and the starred icon stays on the map without being able to be removed. Please check the GIF again here:
Thanks for posting. I’m sure that sharing an animated gif with no sound is done with the best intentions. But so much is happening that the details you wish to communicate get lost or happen so quickly that I’m unable to understand what you mean.
The old bug that @ErmesT referred to can be found here. When I read your initial post I understood that you found individual places showing up in one of your lists. While “my” issue is that entire lists show up on the map without my consent. But maybe your issue is the same as mine?
In your latest reply, you mention another problem. That is when opening a place on one of your lists you only see a set of GPS coordinates. This happens when the place on your list is no longer on the map.
Please consider not to report more than one issue in each thread here on Connect. You are very welcome to make more threads.
The GIF shows that I can not remove the star icon from my map. As I click on the star icon, it does not give me an option to unsave the place. Therefore, the star icon on the map remains there even though I want to get rid of the icon from there.
thank you for your suggestion! I have too many places saved as you see in the image below, so it’s hard to find the right one. It seems like it will work if I really try to go through my list. But, is it considered as a bug or it’s just how it is? Also, my map has too many places saved in my list because of the other bug I mentioned in this thread, which somehow automatically brought back more than 100+ places into my list as saved places without my intension…
While researching your problem I played with my *marked list. I decided to delete everything on the list, because having 78 random places was not helpful. It took a while, but it feels good to get it cleaned up.
That might be the best solution for you also. Instead, I use lists for other issues and I name the list carefully so they really make sense and can stay relevant.
I believe you already know how to “Don’t show on maps” for each of your lists.
thank you for your helpful suggestions! Yes you are right that it maybe a good time to clean the map by removing my existing saved places. However, until this bug/issue is fixed, I may end up having 1000+ places automatically get back into my map’s saved places list after removing everything just like how it happened before. I am new here on Local Guides Connect, so I do not really know if posting here will actually get google map team to take a look into this issue. I have already sent feedback from google map app hoping my message will eventually get them to take a look.
I suspect the problem is related to using more than one platform.
When I earlier today deleted all 76 pins on my *-marked list they are still gone on my mobile device. But right after I noticed that 72 remained on the list when viewed from my desktop. So deleting is also not working as expected under my profile. I deleted them one by one from the list (not from the map).
And now about 10 hours later the 72 pins are still on the list when viewed from my desktop. This could be a simple sync issue that will be fixed over time. Our lists are hosted on several servers, and it can take time before they all know what I deleted.
But 10 hours is more than I would expect, so I’m tagging @AngieYC to kindly take a look at this issue and the problem you are experiencing deleting from places on a list from the map.
@AkSakei could you please confirm that the bug you found is isolated to places with only GPS coordinates?
exhibit the following behaviour - when I click on the star it starts to open the item but immediately changes to a set of coordinates. There appears to be no way to get back to the listing, or to delete the “Star” and re-do. The listing is still available but in a slightly different location. This applies to all 3765 of my saved Stars so is a major pain. I have only recently seen this behaviour but have used this feature for years. Favourites act normally. Help please!
