Goals achieved! What's next?

Hello everyone! Today, being almost February, I achieved my end of 2019 goals! I finally uploaded 1000 reviews and got 100 million views on my photos.

Last year in December when I realized I was pretty close to getting to 100 million views on my photos I set the goal to achieve it by the end of the year… As if I could do something to get more views, fast, besides uploading photos and hoping some of them get featured, right? :grimacing:

It isn’t the first time I do something like that, though!

At the end of 2018 I also set the goal for myself to reach 50 million views by the end of the year, and I didn’t make it, either! But I was “close”.

The truth is… I still remember what is was like to reach the first million and even the first 10 thousand views because its such a long process. When set a goal for number of views, and the deadline is close, all you can do is hope! Adding a bunch of photos last minute, as good as they seem to be, doesn’t do much unfortunately. And don’t just upload any photo, take this article into account: What photos should I share on Google Maps?

About setting the goal of reaching a number of reviews, it requires you to visit a lot of places, so it takes a long time too. Even if you travel a lot!
I could have achieved my goal of 1000 reviews in 2019 because of how many places I was able to visit on my trip to Connect Live, but honestly reviews take a lot of energy from me, and I also feel like I have to be in the right mindset to write them or I could end up writing something not as detailed and specific as I would like, which I think it’s not useful for others. Now, I would never write something spammy like “Nice place.”, but I do like to be specific, I always try to give advice and recommendations, as I love so much to read it on reviews.

Having said all this, I’m taking this double accomplishment as a great way to start this Local Guides year

My 2020 goals are based on quality and used as a motivation and a way to focus on contributing in a certain way, and not really about achieving it on a certain time frame.

My next goals are:

  • Getting that precious Master Director badge!

Yep, but I won’t be disappointed if I don’t get it this year. I still have a lot of videos to upload and a lot of views to get. I’d rather not rush and upload videos of everything, but focus on quality videos when I feel it makes sense to record.

  • Uploading more 360 photos

I might not set an specific views goal, but I do like getting lots of views on my photos and 360s usually are pretty popular. I can only dream of reaching @TorM 's amount of views… but I can surely try! I might have to follow his steps and visit lots of shopping malls to take photos of each store

  • Improving my already published lists, and keep publishing more (quality) lists!

I want to make sure my lists are the best quality they can be. I will follow the recommendations Maps gives on every single one of them. What most of my lists are in need of are good descriptions of each place, for sure.

  • Achieving more with our One Accessibility alliance

I don’t have any specific plans yet, but we do want to achieve more and get more involved with our local communities! I want to focus on that and try to see what I can do to improve accessibility in my region.

  • Keep the Argentine community growing

Get more people to join the programs in meet-ups, but this is more about trying to get the Argentine community more connected with each other so hopefully meet-ups can be done as frequently all over the country, and not just in Buenos Aires. Having other provinces organize as much meet-ups as we do in Buenos Aires someday would be amazing!
How to do that? We have been doing it with teamwork, planning, and proactive attitude of Local Guides in our community like @FaridTDF until not so long ago, and now @Cecilita :raised_hands: , @AdroGran , and more.

Maybe I come up with more goals throughout the year!

What about you?

  • What are your next Local Guides goals? Comment them on @KarenVChin 's post: Dare to Join My Local Guides Goals Challenge
  • Have you ever set a goal for number of views before a certain date and realized you couldn’t do much to achieve it?
  • Is there something you are just focusing on this year, with no deadline?

Let me know in the comments!

Abrazossss

Hey, Hey @Jesi —.WOOOOO HOOOOO!!! Congratulations :tada: !! This is wonderful to start the new year right with hitting your first goal in before the first month ends. I know with the wind behind your back you will accomplish ALL your 2020 Local Guides Goals by the end of this year!

The funny thing that happened to me this morning. Really early to be exact (5:42 am). This flashed on my Local Guides Google Maps profile while I was on the Maps app. I wonder if this is when your received your fantastic news too??

With less than 3,000 photos uploaded to Google Maps no less, I finally reached 75 million in less than 5 years!!

Thanks for the shout-out regarding my **Dare to Join My Local Guides Goals Challenge **here on Connect.

I hope to see more Local Guides dare to post their #2020LocalGuidesGoals there and share their dreams and their progress throughout the year.

Cheers,

Karen

Hi @Jesi your post resonates with so many local guides. With me too , I do have 2020 goals for my local guide work. First is to improve the quality of my in my city of Bengaluru and around it with editing correct information. Second goal is to make more lists as list is an efficient way to aggregate more information in a better way. This already in action as and when I am making a trip I am creating a list of places to visit , to eat and to stay. Hope I will able to make a difference in a positive way. Best of luck for your goals. As an avid list creater, what would your recommendations be , I am curious.( You know I like to ask questions  )

@Jesi Congrats for achieving your goal. And best of luck with your next goals.

My only goal is to reach Level 9 this year with a quality contribution.

Check out my recent achievement here.

Great achievements @Jesi ,

not so many photo views, but your top photo is much higher viewed than my top photo. More reviews (I since a while can no more see the views of my reviews…) and well written.

But wait: Only 59 pictures and nearly 50.000.000 views??? Or is there cut out something?

I will focus again on meet ups this year, as it brings people together who NEVER would come together. I’m always super excited when reaching some new views, BUT excited I’m, when I meet people from around the world in reality and virtual! KEY benefit for our community!!!

@Jesi Fantistic work :ok_hand: ! You have my admiration :+1: .

It is great, that you do not rush and not uploading videos of everything. Many others contributors should follow this rule.

Thank you @NunungAfuah !!

Thanks @KarenVChin ! And super congrats on your 75 million views with less than 3k photos!! That’s an amazing number and it’s incredible considering with the small amount of photos you managed to achieve that. I got my 100 million views pop up just about a week ago, but I still had a couple of reviews left to 1000. Yes, it took me a while hahah, but curiously I managed to write 5 more reviews since yesterday

Muchas gracias @kroza !

Hi @GaganMishra ! Very nice 2020 goals. I do the same with my lists! I also always create lists of good places to eat and go, and since Connect Live to sleep too! I’m sure your lists will make a difference. I do know you like to ask questions

Well, my recommendations for lists are mainly about how to come up with new lists, since Maps already gives the best recommendations:

  1. Write your own title. Which I take as, write a creative title, and don’t steal it from other places.
  2. Add a description about the list. Just elaborate on what’s the list about, and what should people expect in those places.
  3. Add at least 4 places. My own recommendation about this is that you shouldn’t add too many places either, I have lists with so many places that I definitely have to edit and just leave the best representation. (There are many good hamburger spots in Buenos Aires  )
  4. Add descriptions about each place on the list. Clarify why you added that place in the list, or what good things does it have that differenciates it from others.
  5. Select a photo for each place on the list. That’s more personal so I don’t have any recommendations, but I do like to choose a photo that represents the description I wrote for the place, so it usually shows the best thing about it or something I mention.

About how to come up with new lists, your way of creating those three types surely works, but this is in case you are not travelling soon and just want to create lists:

If you haven’t yet, create lists you would need or would use. For me, it’s all about the best restaurants for a kind of food :slightly_smiling_face: That’s the easy part unfortunately. Once you already did those, think about the needs of people in your life, friends or family. And then even strangers you see on the street. You can be specific, so you can create an “Accessible parks” list, an “Restaurants to go with kids”, “Pet friendly shopping malls”, or “Cafes with gluten-free options”.

I hope I was able to give you some ideas… maybe!

By the way, thanks for the question! It gave me the idea to turn this answer into a post and try to be more specific too.
