Located in West Sumbawa, Gili Bedil may not as famous as Gili Trawangan or another Gili in Lombok. In Indonesian, “gili” means small island. You can find a lot of gili spreading around my country Indonesia. If you want to find off-beaten-path gili, peaceful, and not-so-crowded beach, Gili Bedil is one of the best recommendation.
Access
If you are from Lombok, you can go to East Lombok by rent a car or motorcycle. Drive your vehicle to Kayangan Harbor. Then, buy a ticket for ferry boat. The ferry boat will go to Pototano Harbor for around one hour. So, visiting Gili Bedil is going to be Lombok side trip.
Next be ready to drive to Utan District. There are two accesses to go to Gili Bedil, which is by boat from Labuan Pade or Labuan Bajo. We decided to boarded from Labuan Pade because the boat we rented was there. To rent a boat, you can go directly to Labuan Bajo or Labuan Pade, without having an order in advance. There are many of fishing boats that will take visitors to Gili Bedil and its surroundings.
Experiencing Gili Bedil
I went to Gili Bedil with couple of friends. After arriving in Labuan Pade Beach, ordering some seafood before crossing into Gili Bedil is the best choice as preparation for the supplies because there is no stall in Gili Bedil.
After all the supplies and equipment are ready, we immediately head to the ship. It didn’t take long to cross from Labuan Pade to Gili Bedil, just around 15 minutes.
Arriving at Gili Bedil we were immediately welcomed by a special islander. He is an adorable yellow white cat like this.
The first activity we did when we arrived at Gili Bedil was snorkeling! Snorkeling spot on Gili Bedil was not far from the beach. It was not an outstanding one if I compared to another amazing spot in East Indonesia. But, it is good enough and fun.
Apparently, snorkeling makes our stomach hungry. We also immediately burned the fish and squid that had been bought. I immediately prepared fish and squid while my other friends are looking for firewood.
After eating, we were chilling in the island, spend our quality time together, and play with Bedil, the beach cat. There are no people in Gili Bedil, only me and my friends
