Brief History
Gedung Sate was built by the Dutch East Indies government in the 1920s and completed in 1924. The name “Gedung Sate” comes from the skewer-shaped ornament on top of its tower. Did you know? This ornament represents the construction cost of 6 million guilders!
Unique Architecture
The design of Gedung Sate is a blend of European and Indonesian styles. It features Renaissance European architecture with large windows and classic ornaments, combined with traditional joglo roofs and intricate Indonesian carvings. Truly beautiful and majestic!

Initially, Gedung Sate served as the central administrative office of the Dutch government. Now, it houses the Governor of West Java’s office. It’s also frequently used for official events, exhibitions, and cultural activities.
