Garnished plain rice !!!

I was at a [Nice restaurant ](http://My Beautiful Village Hotel 024 871 6708 https://maps.app.goo.gl/Mw26eDx17awHzkTj7)this past weekend in my travels, and I couldn’t help but marvel at the simplicity, beauty of the place, the menu and every thing about it in general.

This is not a five star restaurant, far from it. It was not even in a city, imagine that !!! It’s a little town somewhere in the Volta region of Ghana. About 5km from the Ghana/Togo border. I needed some little bite at tea time and what have I here in this town,I found a local restaurant and I decided to try it. I ordered for plain rice, tomato sauce and chicken:

  • I love the way the plain rice was garnished with tomatoes and green pepper.
  • The tomato sauce came in a little silvery saucer
  • The plate and spoon are made out of plastic(No proper cutleries).
  • I love the table cloth of blue satin material.
  • The interior was quite colourful.

According to the world bank, about 85% of Africans live on less than $5 per day, well hereis an example. You wouldn’t want to know how much this nice little meal costs:

  • $2 for it!!!

I felt this is worth sharing on connect. I may try the garnishing someday DV.

Cheers.

Hello @TusharSuradkar

Thank you for the nice comment. That’s why I felt it’s worth sharing on connect. It’s so simple yet quite nice. It’s in a remote area too but they maintain the place well.

Hope you keep safe in the face of the 2nd wave? Have a good morning.

Just a quick look, it is very similar to one of our dishes here @SholaIB

I had posted it here, please check it out when you can!

Hello @SholaIB ,

Thank you for sharing these photos with us, the meal looks very delicious.

Is rice used as a substitute for bread? Personally, I had many friend from Central Africa and most of them used rice and mashed potatoes instead of bread!

I like the warm colors of the interior of the restaurant! What’s the specialty of the place? What would you recommend to a new comer to begin with?

Hello @BorrisS

Am delighted you read my post thank you.

Well rice is very common here in west Afica really. We haven’t much of potatoes, they are mostly imported. As a result, the staple food here is much preferred. It’s made of corn. It’s much cheaper than rice and bread, it’s quite filling as well.We have Kenkey and Banku. I wrote a post about one of them and also presented it during my meetup. So rice and bread have their places,as well as the local dishes.

There are no specialities as such in little cottage restaurants like these. In general you’ll get a Ghanaian dish called Banku and soup. It’s a little cottage restaurant remember!!! So they haven’t much to offer. I’d recommend Banku for a new comer just to have a taste of the country. I liked the colours too that’s why I just felt I should share this on connect.

Cheers
