Gandrung Sewu: Expression of Gratitude

Gandrung dance originally came from the culture of the Osing ethnic, one of the ethnic in Banyuwangi. As a form of gratitude for the agricultural harvest. Gandrung Sewu (Sewu mean a thousand) is one of Banyuwangi Regency’s annual agendas which is attended by 1,200 dancers and 150 event support teams. This year heald in Boom Marina Beach you can read My Articles about Boom Marina Beach.

This year, Gandrung Sewu raised the OMPROG theme ‘The Glory of Art’, which means an expression of self-control towards the illusion of existence or existence in living the life of a Gandrung dancer who must be maintained in a state of full awareness.

This performance is a means of preserving culture and regenerating artists, especially the younger generation and the entire Banyuwangi community. As an effort to maintain the existence of Gandrung Sewu. Hopefully arts and culture activists will be able to exist more and be given a platform.

Apart from being accompanied by the Barong, Catan and Jakripah dances, there were performances by 15 flag bearer parachutists, a flypast of four EMB-314 Super Tucano fighter planes, and a flypast of three T-50i Golden Eagle fighter planes.

This year, Gandrung Sewu raised the OMPROG theme ‘The Glory of Art’, which means an expression of self-control towards the illusion of existence or existence in living the life of a Gandrung dancer who must be maintained in a state of full awareness. Omprog has a long history since it first started.

Omprog has a “pilisan” its mean clear thinking, “pembatas” means life must have limits, there is “antasena” symbolizing immortality, protection and warrior qualities. There is "nanasan’, a symbol of life that must grow, there is a “keter goyang”, a symbol of the twists and turns of human life, a life that continues to move.
Gandrung is a long story, eternally in our warm embrace, who love this city, Banyuwangi.

Thank you for interesting question @BudiFXW , yesterday i ask my friend as a crew of this event. Based on information, some took off from Malang because Banyuwangi was not yet qualified to take off.

Wow, keren banget @Ismi_Choirunnisa
Semangat selalu, jangan kasih kendor.

Thank you very much for tagging me in this beautiful post, dear @indahnuria !

Wow… Gandrung dancers… Colourful costume & body colour combination make it unique - enjoyed a lot. Is there a specific video of this, fellow LG @Ismi_Choirunnisa ?

Of course, I saw a couple of them in different colour combinations - but this is unique.

The Crown also looks beautiful.

As, our dear friend @BudiFXW mentioned… What are those fighter planes doing there?

Excellent visuals…

Thanks to you all.

This event was close to the TNI Air Force’s annive so it also supported the Gandrung Sewu event.
