Gandrung Sewu Dance Festival, Banyuwangi Regency, Indonesia

Banyuwangi is a Regency located at the eastern end of East Java Province. Aside from having famous natural beauty such as Ijen crater, beach boom, national park alas purwo.

There is a mandatory annual festival for us to capture on camera. Namely the gandrung sewu dance festival.

Gandrung who comes from Banyuwangi Language which means fond, crazy, or fascinated. Banyuwangi residents themselves translate gandrung as a form of fascination or admiration for the agrarian Blambangan residents of Dewi Sri, who is the Goddess of Rice who takes welfare for the population.

Gandrung dance is presented which is a form of gratitude for the residents after the harvest. This philosophy of respect for Dewi Sri is the spirit of the people to develop and preserve Gandrung Dance.

This festival is a mass dance involving a thousand dancers. Gandrung Sewu dance itself is a traditional dance typical of Banyuwangi District.The location of this dance in Boom Beach, Banyuwangi. So don’t miss the opportunity to see the Gandrung Sewu Dance Festival.
