Gafargaon Railway Station (Story of my home station)

I love to travel by train. Below is the short brief about my home station from where every week i travel by train.

In 1823, Gafargaon was one of the 12 police stations in Mymensingh district. Gafargaon is one of the 54 post offices in existence from 1879-80. Gafargaon known as one of the agricultural areas, Railway turned the wheel in the year of 1885/1886. Gafargaon was one of the first four railway stations during the establishment of the Dhaka-Mymensingh railway.

On 29th August 1885 the Gafargaon railway from Mymensingh was opened for passenger transport and on 12th February 1886 Gafargaon to Joydevpur railway was opened for passenger transport.

A train is just arriving at the station.

According to the Dhaka Prakash newspaper, the train used to reach Gafargaon station from Mymensingh at 8.30 am every day with passengers at 6.15 am. From Gafargaon it would leave at 5.15 pm and reach Mymensingh at 7.00 pm.

At that time a lot of jute and jute sacks, bags etc. used to come and go by train from Gafargaon. The age of Gafargaon railway station is one hundred and thirty five years. This is a Class B railway station, passenger and freight transport revenue is the highest among the stations in the region. Not only Gafargaon but also the neighboring Hossainpur, Pakundia, Nandail, Trishal, Bhaluka Upazila passengers used to travel by train from this station.
