Photos uploaded to map will also counts against your free quota. Press the button Recover>Compress done.
@aakashkumbhat this could be maybe just a small misunderstanding.
Google Drive does not come with (not that I am aware of at least) free unlimited storage. There is a base 15GB for Gmail users which is free.
You may be actually describing the free unlimited high quality storage for Google Photos, where we can store unlimited photos (up to 16MP) and videos (up to 1080p) with Google’s compression, free unlimited. For this, we will need to set the High Quality setting in Google Photos (vs the Original Quality which takes up space), and upload photos and videos via Google Photos (and not through Google Drive).
Just note that High Quality setting on Google photos when applied to existing photos or uploaded photos is non-reversible, but at 16MP/1080p, it should be quite plenty unless you want to do large prints. You may want to keep an original copy offline if you need higher quality than that.
For your need, this may be the right procedure to move to Photos.
Install (if not already) Google Photos/sign in via your same Google account
Go to Google Photos settings and set to High Quality setting
Reupload all the previous photos to Google Photos (if you don’t have an offline copy, you may need to re-download from your Google Drive)
You can then choose to keep the existing photos that you have uploaded in your Drive (will take up space) or choose to remove them.
Whatever option you choose, do make sure you have a backup copy of the original in case you change your mind.
Of course the other option is to subscribe to a Google Drive plan to increase your storage in Drive.

Yes, obviously I am talking about G Photos & uploading photos from mobile in high quality. I just need an clarification that it doesn’t count against the free 15gm storage.
@aakashkumbhat Uploading to Google Photos doesn’t take up storage quota, as long you have set in High Quality setting, and uploaded through Google Photos app or web directly.
Uploading to Google Drive directly will take up storage quota and will be in the original quality/format. Uploading to Google Drive does not change the original files.
