Fun Quiz: Better Pics on Google Maps

Below I will share some suggestions on how you can prepare for the quiz should you want to be the winner. So this post is the study guide for the event:

There are a lot of official rules related to what photos can be shared on Google Maps. Unfortunately, most of them are hidden in a lot of hard to read legal documents including:

Community Policy (often referred to as the Guidelines)

Local Guides Program Terms and Conditions (often referred to as the Rules or Program Rules)

Maps User Contributed Content Policy (often referred to as the Policies)

Format Specific Criteria

And these official Connect Posts by Googlers:

• Why was I removed from the Local Guides program?

So you can spend many hours studying the mentioned documents OR you can just join this #GoogleMapsChallenge quiz on Saturday, December 4th. I did the reading for you! I translated the dry documents into 30 fun and educational quiz questions. So by participating you can save many hours studying and instead learn some of the most important rules by playing this entertaining quiz game! As a bonus, you will also get a lot of tips on how to take better pics specifically for Google Maps. And you will meet new nice friends!

Anything to do with promoting better photo contributions on Maps is a good thing so this sounds like a great initiative @MortenCopenhagen , @Denise_Barlock and @jayasimha78 . It’s a virtual meet-up but is it running under the Connect meet-up banner and why exclude registering for participation from the Connect forum? I ask this as you seem to be promoting it here but “running” it via Facebook, or am I wrong here!

@AdamGT As you know, connect allows promoting meetups through social media of our choice. The reason @Denise_Barlock created a google group for meetup link notification was, in one of the meetups some random person hijacked the meetup and started streaming adult content. This is the reason Denise taking extra precaution to prevent such a thing occurring again. Hope this helps.

@AdamGT I would LOVE any suggestion to advertise our meet-up URL more publicly. Until we got a more registered approach, we were getting hijacked regularly. It was the one meet-up that did extensive adult content that forced us to go to this model. Please help!

As far as I know there is no Connect sign-up functionality. Some use Google forms to registre participants. Please elaborate on the solution you would rather see used.

I’ve only just seen your replies and it’s very late here now so give me a little time to get my head around why you are doing it the way you are. When first saw it I was just a little confused at the approach, not critical of it but just confused by it so thought to ask. I will revert soonest.

Sorry for my badly worded first comment and yes as Jayasimha mentioned you can promote in fact even create your meet-ups on social media however, while as Morten mentioned there is no meet-up registration functionality on Connect, I wondered why your explicitly stated that the meet-up URLs will only be provided from the Facebook group. However from what you have since said, my understanding is that your previous meet-ups that you ran were regularly hijacked by “some random person”. Was this because you advertised your meetup URLs here on Connect?

@AdamGT Yeah… We put the meet-up URL here in Connect and it was hijacked by bad players. There’s no way to only allow the folks who sign up the URL. I know there are systems out there that do it and I’ve thought about using them, but most require a subscription… like Constant Contact. If you know of a solution, I’m all in! I’ll take another look around and see if I can find something other than Google Groups.

Just a quick congratulations on your fun photography meet-up last night @Denise_Barlock, @jayasimha78 and @MortenCopenhagen and my apologies for not saying much at all. Believe me I was the proverbial Zombie up in the wee-early hours trying desperately to finish off the Top 100 leaderboards, so close yet so far. I could see you all had a lot of fun with lots of interesting answers given to Morten’s very interesting questions and it was also great to see @TraciC there.
