Fun day out with Mother and Grandmother on Mother's Day

Delhi gives you a feeling of living in a time machine, due to its richness in several monuments from the past. I never knew that one of such monuments is in my very own society complex and I have visited this monument after spending 9 months in this complex.

So I live here in a society, an ambitious government housing plan for central government employees, named GPRA Complex, East Kidwai Nagar Delhi. When I came here I saw the map (down below) of our huge society and the very first thing that caught my attention was the Protected Monument mentioned in the Map (Highlighted in the image below). I have been living here for more than 9 months and it is now after I have become a local guide I finally visited this monument.

The name of the monument is Darya Khan’s Tomb situated next to the Central Government Employee’s quarters. The tomb is from Lodhi-era. The Tomb is built on a big rectangular fort and it is also known that the structure of this particular tomb is different from the other tomb usually found in Delhi.

To climb the platform we have ladders from three sides of the rectangular.

It also consists of four domes on four corners of the platform. In the centre lies the grave of the Darya Khan who was apparently an official of the Lodhi dynasty. Out of the four domed pavilions four have been damaged and broken.

When I talked to local there I found out that before the development of this housing complex the tomb was on an island surrounded by wastewater from nearby localities and there was only one fragile bridge to reach there.

But today the Tomb is surrounded by lush green grasses, circular footpaths for people to enjoy their walk.

I visited the tomb on a Sunday morning. Several people were on their course of morning walk while several others were performing Yoga on the premises of the tomb. The environment calmer, slower and healthy.

The tomb structure is home for a number of pigeons, also innumerable squirrels were running all over the premises. The squirrels were enjoying the corn lying in the centre of the premises.

We found an eagle lying on the ground helplessly, at first we thought that must have happened due to lack/unavailability of water. So we offered her some water. She responded by opening her eyes as well as her beak to drink the water.

Then My Mother and her Mother found a tree with a fruit which they used to eat in their childhood. Although I didn’t like the fruit she made sure that I at least taste it once. I did!

It was exciting as well as a memorable Sunday.

@AnuradhaP Tagging as I read your Bio and it has something to do with ancient monuments.
