Full Moon Party at Koh Phangan

The Full Moon Party is a huge party which is conducted once a month on the designated full moon day, at Koh Phangan, which is the 5th biggest Island of Thailand and is neighboring Island of Koh Sumai. People flock from all parts of the globe to have a great Party here and plan their itinerary. Every single party an estimated 20,000 people attend this party so you can imagine how massive it is.

Why did we go there ?: Our high school classmates got in touch again , thanks to the social media era , and were planning to have a reunion and one friend suggested that we come here to celebrate our 40th year Reunion !! ( we had passed out from school in 1978, Baldwin Boys high school, Bangalore)

On 22nd November 2018 , 15 of us descended here. ( 12 of us were coming from India, 2 from Singapore and 1 from Australia )

How do we reach Koh Phangan ?. We can take a flight to Bangkok and get connected from there or come to Koh Sumai directly, where there is a cute Airport which is like a beautiful resort. It has its own Visa counters so it’s easy to check on compared to the busy Bangkok Airport. Once we reach Koh Sumai, we can come to Koh Phangan Island by fast boats which take about 30 minutes. We can also book some Hotels in Koh Phangan which may a bit more expensive , while most of them , like us stayed in Koh Sumai

How much do we have to pay for the Party ? The cost for pick up from our Hotel, ferry us to the Island and drop us back to our Hotel rooms , at the night back is about 1000 Thai Bahts.

The entry fee to the Full moon party is 100 Thai Bahts. This is only a entry fee and for the drinks you need to buy extra. All along the lanes leading to the Beach Party , it is filled with delicious street food, decoration paints for the face, fluorescent colored T shirts, caps and other accessories.

The Unique feature for the drinks is in the Street you find the vendor selling the drinks which is placed in small Plastic bucket. You need to buy the bucket at an average cost of 300 Thai Bahts, which has 3-4 small bottles mix of whiskey, Vodka, Red bull etc. In case you prefer Beer you can buy separately or from the 7 Eleven stores. As we keep sipping we head towards the Beach Party where there is Fire rope being performed.

The Street food like grilled fish, Chicken Satay, or Pad Thai is awesome and price is very cheap. There are lot of good restaurants where we can finish our dinner. The party goes on through the night. Some may end up sleeping on the beach. The world Island is a massive party with throbbing music and all the people jiving to the beats. We made lot of friends coming from different countries.

We did not feel like returning that night. A party you cant miss. Above picture taken from my friends phone.

The Tourism of Thailand and the Travel Agents do a great job for a smooth efficient operations.

Here is short video of the awesome reunion

How many of you local guides like to visit this party and any of you have already been here ? place. @Aruni @dinitelmo @OmerAli @Gurukrishnapriya @bDilshan95

Hello Mr.Dinakar @Dinakar1

This is one of the best posts I read this week. I must tell you, this post is super awesome. :ok_hand::ok_hand:

You explained your experiences very nicely and very cleary. I can imagine the beauty of this amazing festival. I’m so surprised because it’s not much expensive to attend this wonderful festival. I have never been to Thailand yet but after reading your post now I really want to teleport to Thailand.:heart_eyes:

In Sri Lanka, we celebrate Vesak Festival on the full moon day of May. Vesak is a religious and cultural festival in Sri Lanka. I really like the full moon photo and your group photo. The reflect of the moon is so nice and I must tell you that you have a good camera in your mobile phone, I tried many times but I couldn’t capture a good view of the moon and it reflects yet. If I’m correct is there two people swimming in the sea? As I can see in your group photo you look so younger than your friends. :muscle::muscle:

The liquor bucket is really awesome. Actually, it’s really hard to have many drinks for 300 Thai Baht here in Sri Lanka because in here one local liquor bottle cost 300 Thai Baht. It’s a dream to have a vodka and many good brands for 300 Thai baht here. Cigarette price also very high in Sri Lanka. Our government tries to minimize the usage of cigarettes here. I love to visit this awesome festival one day. You’re so lucky and I’m very thankful you for sharing your awesome experience with us and I’m also very glad for tagging me to this wonderful post.:pray:

Please remember to tell me that if there is any vacancy in your batch :wink: because I love to spend time with wonderful people like you and my school batch is really boring :blush:

I wish you good luck, Mr. Dinakar. I’m curiously waiting to read another awesome post from you. :+1::+1:

Hey @bDilshan95 , Thanks for all the compliments :innocent::pray: but I got inspired very much seeing your wonderful posts.

Yes, you definitely have to visit Thailand if you have not so far. One of the least expensive places and wonderful people.

I did notice some post recently of your Vesak festival recently.

Very true about my camera on my Redmi4 smartphone. It does take amazing shots and use it most of the time and you too have noticed.

Yes, the Liquor Bucket was fun. :beers::tropical_drink::tumbler_glass: mix all of them in the Bucket , some ice and some straws, and all of us were sipping it and got refilled it a few times…:grin:

Your post was a nice read. Great to be connected. Cheers.

@Dinakar1 Koh Samui is one of my favourite places on earth!

Unfortunately, I wasn’t in Thailand at the time of the full moon party so it’s still on my bucket list to attend but my stay in Koh Samui was some of the best times of my life and I’d move there in a heartbeat.

Awesome post!

Much love
