My recent visit to the Ocean Shopping Mall in Karachi was a memorable experience that I highly recommend to anyone in the city of Lights Karachi. This shopping mall, located between the famous landmarks of 2 Talwar and 3 Talwar, has been around for nearly seven years and is one of the tallest shopping mall buildings in the city.
Although my friends and I visited during the last week of Ramdhan, we were impressed by the mall’s 
Accessibility-friendly atmosphere. As we arrived on our motorcycles, we noticed that the mall was more crowded than usual, which is expected during this time of the year.
The mall offers a vast array of shops and outlets catering to men, women, and kids’ shopping needs. Different brands are available for clothing, shoes, unstitched and stitched dresses, jewelry, food, drinks, and household products. The mall’s design makes it an ideal place for people using wheelchairs or who are differently abled, with accessible entrances, lift elevators, washrooms, and ramps provided.
However, during my visit, I realized the importance of having an accessible entrance for wheelchairs at every market, shop, restaurant, and place to ensure that no person using a wheelchair is left behind in a family. I hope this system can be implemented throughout Pakistan to give differently-abled persons the right to visit any place they desire. As a responsible citizen, I will continue to do my part in promoting accessibility for differently-abled people.
Although a security person informed me that taking photos inside the mall is not allowed, I managed to capture several photos before being approached. It’s worth noting that there was no sign posted that “photos taken inside the mall are not allowed”.
The Ocean Shopping Mallin Karachi is a remarkable shopping destination that caters to the needs of all individuals, including those who are differently-abled. The mall’s accessibility-friendly atmosphere and facilities set an excellent example for other establishments to follow. Accessibility is a critical aspect of any building or establishment. Unfortunately, accessibility is often an afterthought or not given much attention at all in some places. This leads to difficulties for those who are differently-abled, including those using wheelchairs, crutches, or mobility aids.

Shopping malls are places where people of all ages and backgrounds come to shop, eat, and spend time with their families. It is essential to have a comfortable, safe, and accessible environment that caters to the needs of all individuals, including those with disabilities.
During my visit, I explored almost the entire mall and was impressed by the availability of all the famous brands. I particularly enjoyed visiting the Ideas By Gul Ahmed and J. stores, where I purchased my Eid Suit and some perfumes, respectively. The mall also offers stores that provide apparel for all seasons, jewelry for engagement & wedding dresses, shoes, sporting goods from cricket, Soccer, and Hockey, electronics cell phones, laptops, toys for children, children’s amusement, and much more.
One of the highlights of the mall is the vast court dedicated to food stalls and restaurants, where I had the opportunity to explore different cuisines and try new dishes. Furthermore, the mall has a vast playing space for kids, making it a perfect place for a family outing.
In recent years, many shopping malls have started to prioritize accessibility. However, there is still a long way to go, and many establishments have yet to follow suit. The Ocean Shopping Mall in Karachi is a prime example of a shopping mall that has made accessibility a priority. It serves as an excellent model for other shopping malls and establishments to follow.
