You might be wondering: why do Indonesian Local Guides find it so easy to meet up so often? The answer is simple. In Indonesia, we have a deep-rooted culture of gathering and staying connected, and we love any excuse to get together! Because of this, whenever an out-of-town Local Guide visits, it has become a wonderful tradition for us to host a meetup and warmly welcome them.
We did our conversations flow effortlessly in Toko Kopi Sumber Rejeki Malang. Some of our friends were busy reminiscing about the fun they had together during the recent Meetup Nusantara (MUN) in Bali last month, which you can read about here. Meanwhile, seeing Mas Is made me reflect on how far back our friendship goes all the way to 2018. Naturally, we also exchanged some of our favorite culinary recommendations around Malang.
It was so heartwarming to experience this kind of moment again. The last time I had a similar gathering in Malang was probably when I met up with Mas @iyudhi. You can read the story here.
For the umpteenth time, this experience reaffirms exactly what I love most about being a Local Guide: you can find genuine friendship absolutely anywhere. The bonds we build within this community are truly one of a kind.
Do you have a close friend that you met through a Local Guides meetup? I’d love to hear your stories!
Terimakasih buat semuanya..
Pengalaman seru ketika meet up dadakan bisa mengumpulkan begitu banyak orang.
As someone that have been trying to set up a meet up in USA and Australia before, I noticed meet ups in Indonesia just have different level of energy. It just feels people are more willing to meet and not thinking about getting any swags/physical rewards or anything like that.
also reminds me the song title from this Indonesia band Slank - ‘makan gak makan asal ngumpul’ (doesn’t matter if we don’t eat as long as we’re together)
What a wonderful story of friendship and community! Meet-ups truly bring Local Guides closer and create unforgettable memories. Thanks for sharing! @NunungAfuah
I still remember when Google held a scavenger hunt challenge that was ideally capped at 10 Local Guides. It was quite difficult to manage because so many people wanted to participate. Whenever I host meet-ups here, I always make sure to enforce a strict capacity limit. Otherwise, we end up with way too many attendees, making the event hard to handle. It’s true that whenever a challenge requires minimizing the number of participants, it’s quite tough to pull off in Indonesia! Anyway, thank you @iyudhi for taking the time to read this. If you ever come back to Malang, please feel free to reach out and say hi to your fellow Malang Local Guides… haha!
