From Finding Restaurants to Helping People Of the Same Dilemma Through My Photos

Dating a foodie expat who loves to eat at good restaurants every other night was the reason why I learned about Google Local Guides. I hated using review apps and online maps to know what’s the nearest Spanish restaurant in our area or where can we find the most affordable sushi. However, my love for him made me conquer all these. Every afternoon, I am the one in charged scouring for the newest restaurant and at the same time finding discount deals we can avail for dinner. I rarely eat at restaurants so I couldn’t give him lots of suggestions. He’s an American who calls Manila his second home. I can probably suggest where to eat local food but he miss eating Western food as much as he loves to eat a mix of international food.

He’s the one who told me to use Google maps. Whenever we encounter a restaurant with superb customer service and outstanding taste, he would really take time to leave a meaningful review accompanied with few photos. Same thing, when he encounters one that needs improvement. After sometime, I find myself doing what he does. I just started last year but I quickly reached Level 7 and gathered more than 1 million views already.

In the beginning, I contributed very little but as time passes by I feel happy sharing my photos to fellow locals and foreign travelers who are in dire need of making wise decisions in terms of choosing the best spots to explore or where to dine in my country particularly in Manila. I would say 60% of my photos come from restaurants we visit. By the end of this year, my goal is to visit 100 restaurants then share my photos plus food recommendations to Google maps . Right now, I am at 60ish mark. Majority of these photos aren’t edited or taken in dim light or at night because we snap photos during the time we have freedom to do so - not to get an Instagrammable shot. I do not put too much filter because I want my photos to be the exact representation of the place it is meant to be.

The rest are from hotels, resorts, wellness spas, parks, gardens, malls, churches, heritage houses, small businesses and museums I visit since I travel for leisure and work.

I promise to keep on sharing information that empower people to make better choices which leads to a fulfilled life. We don’t need to be the most powerful or to be the richest person to make a difference - we can just be ourselves and help each other through little ways that matter.
