From Adding My Home to Becoming a Level 6 Local Guide: My Journey with Google Maps Contributions

My journey as a Local Guide began when I noticed people adding their homes on Google Maps. Inspired, I wanted to add my own house. At first, I had no idea how to do it, so I turned to YouTube tutorials. After watching a few videos, I successfully added my home to the map. Then came the wait—three long days of anticipation. Finally, I received the success notification. It was an indescribable joy!

With my home added, I started using Google Maps directions whenever I traveled outside my village. However, I noticed that the main road of our village was missing from the map, which rerouted people through a longer, neighboring route. Motivated by my initial success, I decided to add the main road of my village.

After submitting the edit, I checked my notifications daily, eagerly awaiting approval. It took almost a month, but when the success notification finally appeared, it felt immensely satisfying.

Since then, I’ve gradually moved up to Level 6 as a Local Guide, making more contributions along the way. Being part of the Local Guides community has become a fulfilling habit, one I genuinely enjoy.

Sending love to everyone in the Bangladesh Local Guides Community!

#Special_Note: By adding my home here, I actually meant my office, as I operate a local business from home. And this is certainly not against the rules of the map.

Take Love

Hi @Majed_Ahmed , What do you mean when you said “I successfully added my home to the map”?
There is a specific function to add your home, while adding private residencies in Maps as POIs is strictly forbidden. I know that a lot of people do this, but such kind of places should be removed from Maps, and reported

Hello @ErmesT,
When I said I successfully added my home to the map, I didn’t mean it literally. Rather, I have a local business that I operate from home, so I added it to make it easier for my clients to pinpoint my location. It functions somewhat like an office. Therefore, I hope doing this isn’t considered wrong.

You are welcome to add your own business in Google Maps, @Majed_Ahmed , if you just keep separate your business and your Local Guide’s activities.
But I suggest you to make it clear on your initial post, just to avoid any confusion.
Reading your post others may think that adding their home in Maps it is fine, and this can easily make unusable, filled with private homes.
