Friday Favorites: a train journey, an Indian food truck, and more

Every Friday, Google Moderators highlight the best posts they found to celebrate the amazing discoveries Local Guides like you are sharing on Connect. These are posts detailing past experiences that we hope will serve as entertainment and inspiration for your future bucket list. This week, a train journey, an Indian food truck, and more.

@KlaudiyaG : My pick for the week was nominated for our Friday Favorites series, and I’m glad it did because it’s an amazing read! I’m a big fan of books and movies about trains that take you on some romantic and mysterious adventure. With international travel on hold, @davo_dw decided to discover his native Australia in a way he’s never done before: onboard The Ghan train. He summarized his three-day journey in the wonderful post “The Ghan Train Journey - Travelling South to North across Australia.” In it, you’ll learn about what sets The Ghan apart from other trains (one word: luxury!), what the onboard dining and sleeping experiences are like, and more. Sounds exciting? Then go ahead and read Davo’s post.

@MashaPS : It’s truly been a month of celebrations! So many Local Guides honored Connect’s 5th birthday by organizing meet-ups, starting challenges, and sharing their birthday wishes. This week, @Velvel shared the last #ConnectTurns5Challenge, and it’s been so interesting to see Local Guides looking back on their first-ever posts on Connect. I especially enjoyed @indahnuria ’s throwback post “Remembering My First Post in Connect #ConnectTurns5Challenge.” In it, she tells us why she chose Taman Safari Indonesia as her first topic and mentions some of the things she would write differently now that she has more experience. She’s learned that more photos and the right details make a post more helpful and engaging.

Do check out Indah’s post and, if you’re curious, see what memories other Local Guides are sharing this week with the #ConnectTurns5Challenge.

@AngieYC : I was very excited to see that @jayasimha78 continues his popular Indian food trucks series. Each post introduces a spot for having Indian cuisine on wheels in the San Francisco Bay Area in the U.S. His latest post, “Bay Area Indian Food Truck Series: One Bite Stand,” highlights one street food truck with only two items on the menu: Dabeli and corn patties. As always, Jay shared some great photos of the place he visited and the delicious snack he tried. I’ve never had Dabeli, but now I’m craving one! If you’re a foodie and you love Indian food like me, this is a series you can’t miss. I’m looking forward to reading his next posts.

Tell us about some of the best posts you’ve read on Connect lately, or nominate your favorite one using our nomination form. Be sure to keep an eye out next week to see if one of your posts is selected for Friday Favorites! You can check out last week’s Friday Favorites here.

It is indeed a treat to the eyes watching an entire train in a single frame in front of a bonfire. Such a combination is unusual.

The Dabeli snack has a full name - Kachhi Dabeli where the prefix word has two stories to it:

  1. Kacchi कच्ची - meaning raw. Here the bread is half-cooked and the fillings are stuffed.

After that, the Dabeli is again put into an oven or over a hot pan served hot for the best taste.

  1. Kachhi कच्छी - meaning originating from the Kachh region of India. Some people believe this originated in Gujarat. hence the name Kachhi Dabeli.

Congratulations @davo_dw
