Friday Favorites: a park in the Netherlands, exploring Porto, and more

Every Friday, Google Moderators highlight the best posts they found to celebrate the amazing discoveries Local Guides like you are sharing on Connect. These are posts detailing past experiences that we hope will serve as entertainment and inspiration for your future bucket list. This week, a park in the Netherlands, exploring Porto, and more.

@KlaudiyaG: This week, I discovered a marvelous park called Hoge Veluwe National Park in the Netherlands, and I would love to share it with you. The way @user_not_found described it in her post, “There’s places beyond Amsterdam…(chapter 3),” it sounds like a real treasure. It’s the perfect place for anyone who would like to enjoy some peace and quiet, as well as art and architecture. What makes this park special are its many hiking trails across mesmerizing landscapes, over 40 kilometers of cycling paths for children and adults alike, and, best of all, its accessibility. How wonderful! I wanted to highlight Inge’s post also because it gave me the chance to dive a little deeper into the Dutch culture and history thanks to her story of the prominent couple who established the park. If you’re looking for a new place to add to your bucket list, I encourage you to check out her post.

@Bobiisha : The post I loved reading this week was “La mágica ciudad de Oporto” by @diaaan . In it, the Local Guide tells us about a quick getaway to the city of Porto in Portugal. From where to stay to where to buy the famous pastel de nata pastries and delicious Porto wine, @diaaan recommends many bucket list-worthy spots with enthusiasm. There are also places to relax, local breweries, and great locations for nighttime views of the city. On her last day, the Local Guide checked out a place that Google Maps recommended to her, and it turned out much more amazing than she expected. Want to find out what that place was? Make sure to read her post and follow her on her walk around the city of Porto.

@DeniGu : I love going to local markets whenever I find myself in a new place. There are always some interesting items on sale, just like @MukulR discovered last week. During a meet-up with @KamalHossenR and other Bangladesh Local Guides, Mukul visited the Atghar Boat Market and was so impressed that he shared his experience with us in the post “Atghar: a famous boat market in Bangladesh.” And it’s easy to see why! The wooden boats, all in different shades of brown, look so beautiful while neatly arranged along the river. As a passionate Local Guide, Mukul also didn’t miss to share details about how to get to the market, when to visit, and what to expect there. Learn more about this unique place in his post.

Thank you @KlaudiyaG another great round-up of Friday Favorites and congratulations to @user_not_found @diaaan and @MukulR for great posts and photos to go with your stories. The Netherlandsis a beautiful and somewhat unique country with some amazing parks. I myself haven’t been to Hoge Veluwe National Park but can well imagine what it would be like from your post Inge as I’ve ridden through Beatrixpark in Amsterdam which as named after Queen Beatrix., truly mazing, one has to see it to believe it. Having been to Porto, it certainly is the city for wine. A beautiful city with lots to see and do @diaaan . I walked there from Santiago de Compestella, about 200 km and the first thing that struck me was all the amazing statues and monuments in the city.

Just looking at the photos make me want to go there @user_not_found the structure of the building reminds me of fall in the Cider Mill here in Michigan. Meanwhile the river by @MukulR makes me want to kayak that place. Thank you to both of you with a beautiful photos and the explanation.

Nice choice @KlaudiyaG

Thank you, @AdamGT ! I read your review on Google Maps. I was born in Amsterdam-Noord, we lived with my grand-parents then as there was a housing shortage. Then my parents found an apartment and we moved. The apartment was very close to the Beatrixpark (just on the other side of the A10 highway. We’ve lived there until I was 4 years old. So I’m pretty sure that as a 3-year-old, I must have explored the park on my little tricycle! It’s a small world
