France - 20 hours in Bordeaux tour food & visit

A preview of a few pics of Christophe Subilia Local Guide post

?? 20 hours in Bordeaux, France
a story by a swiss local guide ??

I went for a week to the Ile d’Oléron for my summer holidays. Last year, I writed a post and I had already talked about it here.

This year, I went through Bordeaux to go and come back from my holidays. I only stayed there for 20 hours.

I fell in love with this city (France) and I decided to show you my discoveries.
All addresses are quickly accessible on this Google Maps list : https://goo.gl/maps/fh1YjXnfVbSMmiSi8

Siman Restaurant ? : restaurant bar with an exceptional quality and view
I arrived late in Bordeaux maybe around 9pm and I wanted to eat well with a good atmosphere. It was the first restaurant that Google Maps showed me and it was really good with a very nice view of Bordeaux. It has been faboulous !

Le Lion de Veilhan ? : Giant statue of a Lion in the center

I was walking towards the city centre when I saw this magnificent and big lion (statue). It made me think of the Lion King and I decided to take a picture of it.
In July 2015, this statue turned 10 years old, so he’s turning 15 this year!

Le miroir d’eau :fountain_pen: : Reflect and refesh place !
When I’m in a city and I see a place with +10k ratings and very positive, I really want to see what it is!

This place allows you to see the reflection of the buildings in front of Place de la bourse. In summer (the period I was there) and in the middle of the day, it is difficult to see its reflections because there are many children and families playing.

Still, I enjoyed the place very much and it allowed me to refresh myself and take a special picture.

La Boulangerie Saint-Michel ? : Best bread and simple pastry

One of the things I love to do in France ??: Eat ! Especially in the morning with the bakeries. I was walking around and I came across this very simple bakery, but when I saw the queue of people, I realised that it would be good.

The ferris wheel ? : Back to childhood and a magnificent view of Bordeaux
I had still 3 hours in Bordeaux before I had to go and I already seen this wonderful Ferris wheel when I ate at the Siman restaurant (if you look at the first picture in this post, you can see it in small blue). It was strange for me because it was the first time I had been on a Ferris wheel all alone.

:arrow_right: And you tell me…
Have you ever been to France ? What is the city you visited very quickly but really enjoyed?

Oh thank you @AniaKiser ! It is possible to come directly from Poland to Bordeaux ? If yes, you must try !

Waouh ! Bordeaux en 20 heures ! ?

:star2:

Hi @christophesubilia

This is really amazing! Bordeaux is definitely a city I would like to visit soon. I still haven’t been to the West of France. I’ve only traveled to the French Riviera for the past 5 years and I’m completely in love. It’s become my other home.

There are so many beautiful cities that I think you need at least 2 weeks to travel to all. How did you like Bordeaux? Where would you like to go next in France?

Hi @DanniS

Yeah, it’s really beautiful. It’s certainly one of the most beautiful cities I visited in France. This country is very close to Switzerland so I often have the luck and opportunity to go there and discover this beautiful country.

After what my friend @Julien44 showed during his virtual meetup “A la découverte de la Francophonie” I really want to see Nantes as soon as possible.

And you ? When is your next stop to France ?

@christophesubilia Oh yes, I’ve seen many amazing photos from Nantes and they are so beautiful. I’d definitely love to see the West Coast, Bordeaux, Bayonne and Biarritz. Also, I’ve been really eager to go to Corse, the island. Have you been there?

@DanniS I love Corsica ! Maybe one of my favorite places ! And you ?

At the begining of october 2019 I went there and it was amazing

I writed a post about it on Connect too : Hike, blue water and sun in october - 2 weeks in Corsica (France)

Hey traveler @christophesubilia , this is a great post :). I feel like I traveled with you already haha. I love the lion sculpture especially and the rest of the pictures you have shared are very pretty. Wow! France is really beautiful, and tell me: what has changed due to covid?

Hey @Mayford yes the lion is really nice and so impressive (6m tall)

Good question about covid. I took a plane in Geneva :switzerland: to Bordeaux :fr: with Easyjet and everybody must wore a mask since enter the airport until exit. After I’ve taken a uber in Bordeaux and same thing, I wore a mask inside. In the city it was only on shop that I had to wore a mask. Otherwise, it was pretty normal. I’m little lucky because rules changes after the end of my France trip. Now tyou must wear a mask in every enclosed place.

@christophesubilia I remember reading your post about Corsica. It’s such an amazing island. I haven’t been there, but I was checking some flights last time from Nice and they weren’t expensive at all. They even have boats going there, but that might take longer. I really hope to visit it soon. :slightly_smiling_face:

@DanniS that’s great ! If you go to South Corsica here the Google Maps list that we made : https://goo.gl/maps/vrPDq9HekJJ6Jcvo6

I advise you to go to Figari and rent a car directly at the airport. We was on a Airbnb on Figari. This village let us the opportunity to be near many wonderful places. And it’s maybe better to go in september because there is too much people during summer holidays.
