Fort William, India (at Kolkata city) shows Temporarily Closed, but it is a wrong edit

Picture- A screenshot (on Google Maps App) showing the place temporarily closed.

Hello, Local Guides Team,

Fort William Kolkata is the Army Headquarters of Eastern Command in India. On the map, it is showing temporarily closed, which is actually false information. This Army headquarter is always open. I have tried once to re-open this place, but that could not be verified. Yesterday I have clicked one picture in front of Gate No-3 (I have attached the picture below) of Fort William, which also shows the place is open.

Photo- On the map it is showing temporarily closed

Hope Local Guide team will take necessary action and solve this problem.

Thank you.

Hi @PritishB

If Google Maps is working in India as it does here, you can just tap Suggest an edit, and you will see the option to reopen the place. Super simple and super fast.

Best of luck

Hello @PritishB

You can reopen the place if you’re certain about that.

You will find the answer in this solution useful in that regard.

Thank you for your comment @MortenCopenhagen . In my post, I have already mentioned that I have done the same. But it could not be verified.

Thanks!

Have a great day!

Sorry, @PritishB

You could try asking some of your local local guides friends to also try doing it.

Could it be that the Fort is open for employees but not for visitors?

Also, places with 8000+ reviews are notorious for being well protected against edits.

Cheers

Morten

Thank you @PritishB for raising the concern here.

I also see that the place(Fort William) is Temporary Closed.

In my region, most of the small businesses are opened. But on Maps,it shows Temporarily Closed.

When I want to mark the places (business/shop) as Re-open then it can’t be verified. :pensive:

The fort is categorised as Fortress, @PritishB and, as you can see, it is a claimed Listing.

Fortress is normally used to classify a kind of Historical places, and probably it has been automatically “temporary closed” by Google My Business according to the indication of the Local Government.

In addition the place is claimed, as you can see from the listing in Google Maps.

So it would be not an issue for the owner of the listing to re-open the place, while it will be difficult to do this for a Local Guide, as the place have an owner

Thanks @ErmesT @KalyanPal for your concern and comments. But this place is not a business place. This is Army Headquarters (as mentioned in my post, also information available in internet)! If you quickly click the location and go through the nearby campus, it will be clear to you.

Have a great day!

I know what the place is, @PritishB

What I am telling you is how the place appear to be on Google Maps.

Why the place is not categorised with the correct Category, that is Military Base?

Who claimed the place? The army, or is the place stolen by someone else?

These are the questions we need to answer first, if we want to understand what is wrong and how to fix it. What I am trying to explain is that if we do not understand what we have on Maps, fix an issue will be extremely difficult, if not impossible

As the place is claimed, you should report the issue on Google My Business Help Community , for them to check first what I wrong in there.
