I have been craving for peri peri chicken for a long time now and since I don’t have the luxury of having Nandos in my home city, I decided to try Barcelos instead. For some, barcelos is the righteous alternative to Nandos and its budget friendly as well. For me, it was just about the flamed grilled chicken and after going through rather funny history (published on Barcelos South Africa website), I booked my table.
I found the dimly lit, clean, airy dining hall filled with the gorgeous fragrance of peri peri spices and grilled chicken and it was exactly what I needed. I must say I was hugely impressed with the cleanliness and friendliness of the staff, but, perhaps, it was because it was just two of us there (me & my wife).
There’s something about introverts, we tend to choose the quietest corners no matter where we go ? so, that’s where we decided to have our lunch
Everything so far reminded me of Nandos in one way or the other and then I spotted the ample supply of Peri Peri sauces. The looked just fine and honestly, had somewhat funny names e.g. Very Peri, Sugar Peri, Mild Peri etc.
Right, let’s jump to the main course and sides now. I found the chicken to be 70% Nandos-ish but it was grilled to perfection. It looked a little different (don’t mind the filters here, I had to put a little life to the images)
Yep, it deserves a Top view shot as well ?
Though I wasn’t impressed with my side (Mediterranean rice) as they had no texture and wow factor to them, they were just plain spicy but I managed to finish them all ?
And finally, here’s a little timelapse to wrap it all up
