Hello friends and dear LG , this post is about flood alert , indication shown by google map , nowadays india is facing issue of flood in almost every part of it , from east to west or north to south , every where is raining like cats and dogs , the origin of flood is due to heavy rainfall in upper area and water came down to lower area . What is flood ? excessive flow of water . floods come to those areas where the river passes through it , it brings water , humus and sometimes animals with them . floods destroy everything whatever it comes to in its way , you can not control it , you can only prepare for its after effect . Google map and search showing flood alerts to save life and make people aware about this disaster in the local area or where the flood is coming .When you open Google map and if you are in a region of flood affected area , you will see a Red alert , with Flood situation near …… .your area . you will see flood risk like

• High ( This area and surrounding areas are at a high risk for flooding. )
• Low ( This area and surrounding areas have risk for flooding )
• Not info available (Information of these area not available at this time )

Flood alert in your google map and search is based on your location , it will access your location , to show your real time data of that particular or specific area.

Google takes data from a local government agency who provides forecasts of river water level for upcoming days . if you are in a flood affected area and search, google flood forecast with specific location flood forecast will in your search page result . “ Crisis Alert “ is on so you are getting updates and forecasts. I never suggest you turn off these Crisis alerts . The flood forecast is updated several times in a day according to data available shared by local authorities .Recently I have been getting flood alerts on my Android device .

How much will the water level increase in the upcoming time ?

You will also get safety tips from your local government authority collecting data .

This feature is very helpful and saves millions of lives by alerting them before flood or during flood. This unique feature plays an important role in saving life and displacing people from affected regions .

I personally find these warnings and notifications for earthquakes, wildfires, floods etc. one of the most usefull additions to Google maps, because these warnings and notifications could help save lives. I would suggest everyone to enable such notifications, and this is the only reason your location sharing with maps should be enabled, so that people can help others by warning them. Combining of data by google, taken from governments, forecasting services, … for these purposes should be stimulated. Transforming maps into a social platform can be fun, but is less necessary because it doesn’t save lives. But notifying people that a wildfire or flood is nearby is important for keeping everyone safe.

Now days Tech Helping in many ways to save people from disaster and Calamity Google map is playing an important role in that . while Reading your comment an idea pop in my mind, about Thunder storm or Lightening Due to this many people lost their life what is your openion about it. In today world Due to more pollution Lightening happen more in sky and some time fell down on earth. Hope so our scientists and Tech. Experts find solution about this disaster. Well I am very happy that you read my post and comment on it.

@RaviSharma111 RaviSharma111: uw idee is interessant, maar ik vraag me af of dit ook kan. Een onweersbui kan soms voorspeld worden, maar soms ontstaan ze totaal onverwachts en zijn ze zo plaatselijk, dat ze onmogelijk te voorspellen zijn. Een blikseminslag is dan nog moeilijker te voorspellen. Orkanen, tropische stormen etc. kan je gevormd zien worden of je kan hun koers bepalen, maar plaatselijke buien, windhozen, een blikseminslag etc. zijn volgens mij onvoorspelbaar. Google weather heb ik nog niet kunnen uitproberen, want heb geen pixeltoestel. Ook kan je volgens mij geen plaatselijke weerdiensten als b.v. het KMI of KNMI als bronnen toevoegen. Weermodellen spreken elkaar soms ook tegen, dus dan moet je als weerdienst ook proberen inschatten welk weermodel de meeste kans heeft om de voorspelling juist te hebben. Nogmaals, uw idee is zeker interessant en ik zou @DeniGu of andere Google medewerkers willen taggen om uw idee onder hun aandacht te brengen. Misschien kan Google.org en Google weather beter samenwerken met maps om uw idee te realiseren? Of misschien moeten we de zaak omdraaien en Google weather beter maken en met Google maps verbinden, zodat weerswaarschuwingen voor stormen, overstromingen, … nauwkeuriger kunnen worden en op een landkaart getoond worden?

Very interesting and Honest reply @KattyGeltmeyer and thank you for tagging googler @DeniGu ji in this post, yes your observation is correct but in our locality local government and IMD is sending message to public before Rain and lighting, you can acces live lighting through offical website of IMD Live lighting . I am sharing local message in photo send by Local government or IMD department to public . That help in many way to save people life and wealth. I hope team will consider and we will see such specific feature in map .

Well, @RaviSharma111 , that’s why I suggested to give the possibility to add such local governments and weather broadcasting services as sources within google weather etc. like you can add sources of news into google news.
