Sometimes it costs a lot of money to go for a city break or… people just think it is nessesary to spend a fortune visiting world famouse city…I have got good news for you- to be honest it can be quite cheap !!!
There are 5 tips from me how not to go bankrupt in Athens, Greece
- The best time to go there is from 1st of November to 31st of March - the main attractions like Acropolis, Roman Agora etc. cost half price! If you go during high season you can but combo ticket for 30 euro for 7 places.(reduced price is 15 euro) Tickets and tourist info in Athens
- If you go in the same time I mentioned above, but on first Sunday of the months those attractions are FOR FREE!!! (there is also a calendar of certain national holidays when the entrance costs nothing at all).
- Find cheap fights - it is easier in the winter and the city is less crowded , what it is very helpful to take awesome pictures!
(f.e. I have paid less than 30 euro for return flight with low cost airline)
- Buy 3- day tourist ticket for all transport in the city for 22 euro (including buses, metro and tram, also from/to airport) - you can safe more money using your own two feet visiting the center-main attractions are not that far one from another. Public transport in Athens
- I found incredible cheap accomodation with breakfast a few minutes from Acropolis museum at nice small apartment (2 people, 3 nights for 116 euro), but at their hostel a night was even cheaper. Athens Studios

Wow! Very interesting and useful! Thank you @AniaKiser for sharing!
I love Greece so much and want to visit and explore it again and again! Actually, your tips will be very helpful to me!
Would like to ask you, is there a cheap tourist bus (like Hop-on Hope off) in Athens? We used the City tourist bus, which cost 2€, when we were in Thessaloniki. Really, it was very comfortable.

Hello @JaneBurunina ,thank you for your comment
Unfortunatelly I didn’t find any tourist bus that cheap as 2 euro. I was using public transport (please check www.athenstransport.com/english ) , especially metro was very comfortable. This time I didn’t take Hop On Hop Off option, but you can check it here. At least these three companies provide sightseeing tours in Athens.
