First time visit Indian - Bangalore

My friend and I won 4 flight tickets from Jet Airways, the India base airline.

The game is very simple, it’s about their new daily flight Singapore to Bangalore, you just need to like their Facebook and tell them what you plan to do on their contest post. And we are very lucky to be the winner on top of 3 winners.

Here is our flight experience with their Boeing 737.

The flight time is not really idea but Singapore Airline and Tiger Air depart at the similar timing from Changi Airport and it’s a free ticket so no complain :stuck_out_tongue:

The new airport is very nice, big and clean and modern but you can’t buy a local Sim card here, its pretty troublesome to buy a sim-card, you need a photo and passport photo copy, I’d suggest to get a Wifi router at the departure city.

They even have Uber pick-up zone! It’s just 2min slow walk from the exit gate, there will be Uber staffs at the turn point.

The flight arrived at 11:30pm so we booked an airport hotel near by then change to a better hotel on the next morning.

I booked the airport hotel from agoda.com, pretty good deal, only 25SGD without A/C but has fast wifi. The room is a bit dusty on the floor but the bathroom is super clean.

Then the next day early morning We check-in to a really nice hotel ITC Windsor, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bengaluru.

As I’m SPG platinum level, the hotel offered me a nice upgrade with and nice garden view.

I don’t feel like I’m in India!

First place I go is the Bangalore Palace, just get an Uber and it’s 5min away from the hotel.( the ride only cost me 1.20SGD! )

It look small and run down from the out side but I think it’s worth for the 10SGD entrance fee.

I spent about 2 hours there taking about 30 photos upload to the street view, then I wanted to try their Tuktuk back to my hotel but all the Tuktuk insist to bring me to shopping and silk factory for a free ride, I felt it’s like a scam so I decided to walk back to the hotel. It’s will be great if I have the wifi router to get Uber.

Then second places we go is the City Market, very interesting place to explore, the traffic is very messy, crowded and good for photo shoot :-p

Basically I dint buy anything from the City Market, but you can see that its good for Instagram photo shoot.

I spent about 3hours there in including the Bangalore fort for 5min and 20min late lunch at the street side restaurant.

Then I try to get a Tuktuk back to the hotel, it was a nightmare, been asking about 6/8 tuktuks they don’t know where is the hotel location even I shown them on Google Map!

Finally one of the Tuktuk willing to pick us but he insist me to pay additional 100Rupee on top the meter fare.

there is a switch on the meter, just flip it to the left to on th meter.

Then I got back to the hotel for cocktail hour, there are 2 hours free flow snacks and drink at the lounge for the suite room guests and SPG platinum member.

The next day morning switch to another SPG hotel- Le Meridien Bangalore after a super great breakfast!

It’s just 5min walk from the ITC Windsor, you may check out the video here about the Le Meridien Bangalore, it’s a modern hotel.

We went to the commercial Street after check in, I think it was the highlight of the trip (^__^), we reached there about 10am but most of the shop open at 11am, it was great to be there early with less crowd and traffic.

It’s very different to me, I was taking photo non stop~ hahaha

But have to be careful on the street, what happens to me was a kid put his hand in my pocket try to pick something, i shout him back and everyone just laughing.

Lucky I got nothing stolen so I continue to explore that area, I dare not go into the beef market, it look dirty and messy for me and I don’t want to see hanging animal so I went behind the beef marker for the dry market (^__^)

Then just lost and walk around~ Lucky there is a free wifi at Mcdonal but limit for 15min a day, I use the to get uber and drop the traditional outfit we bough and go to a modern shopping mall the Mantri Square, its fully a/c and high security cover, I went to the food court to have delicious Indian food and had a great spices shopping at the super market.

The traffic getting terrible at 4:30pm so we decided to walk back to the hotel from the shopping mall, it sound crazy but we happy with that, coz we bump to a temporary art night market on the way back to the hotel.

Then back to the hotel and change to the traditional outfit for the cocktail hour at the club lounge :-p

I’m glad that I visited to the lounge, coz the staff was really professional to let me try all the local whisky. Surprised the local whisky are really good, smooth, great fragrance and easy to drink! Then he also suggested me to visit the Brigade Road after the drinks, it was a good suggestion!

We glad that we made it to the street at the busy period and found a great place to buy books! The book shop we went is Bookworm they do carry new books too! and average about 8$ per book, we bough 12 books at that night!.

I dint take any photos at the airport coz we are a bit late to check-in the flight, lucky the airport is very modern and systematic so we are able to board the flight!

After this trip I’ve booked another trip to Jaipur, Taj Mahal and New Dehli, I think India is not that bad as every told me, food poisoning, dirty, smelly and not safe to visit.

I really depend on Google Map when I go holiday and work, so this is why I also do my best to contribute to the Map to help others!

In case you dunno there is an amazing app call Google Trip, faster go download it! It allowed you to save the off line Map and all the booking and some suggestion of the destination!

Ask me about my trip, I’ll try my best to answer you.

Hey @JimTan

I’m really glad that you liked visiting our country. Please do visit some other states of India too ,the next time you plan your holiday.

Each State has a unique Culture and Experience. And getting to know them is Truly Amazing.

Bangalore on the other hand offers you a cosmopolitan city and much of the heritage part cannot be viewed here,Instead it offers a mix variety of cultural experiences.

Mysore on the other hand has a lot to explore and experience, with forts, palaces, dams, church’s etc.

Do plan a trip based on the geographical aspect of india.Like a south asian trip which covers(kerala, karnataka, tamil nadu, goa etc)

similarly for north indian trip as well. You could do both at one go ,if time is not a constrain.

India has got rich culture and many engineering marvels, which you will wonder how did they build this before 10th Century.

Do, plan for Tamilnadu and it’s temples.

Yeah~ I just met a diamond designer, he told me one of the interesting story about diamond and India!

India is the place to make full use of diamond in the world, it’s back to 2000yrs, and the world just started to admire beauty of diamond about 500yrs!

Interesting right?

If you are hungry for …

For Chaats → Best place to head to is “Sweet Moments”

For refreshing Lassi, Kulfi, Falooda, Special Ice-creams:ice_cream::icecream: → head to Shreeraj Lassi Bar
Timings are - 11 AM to 11:30 PM

For Beef Tandoori → head to Sham’s Fast Food in Kammanahalli
It specialises in Beef items like Beef Biryani and Beef Tandoori. They have a lot of other items (Chicken items, Rolls, Biryani, Tandoori items, Soups) on their menu but proudly state that this is one of the few (or only) places in Bangalore that sells Beef Tandoori. So if you eat Beef, be sure to try this dish over here. Its marked as “2nd Cross Rd, St Thomas Town, Ramaiah Layout” on Google maps.

For Rolls, Burgers🍔, Shawarma → head to Al Amal Café in Kammanahalli
Avoid it from 6 PM to 11:30 PM to avoid the crowd & there is limited seating with just two tables and a few chairs.

For Veg momos - Rs. 40 (8pc); Chicken momos - Rs. 60 (8pc) → Head to Darjeeling special hot momos in Kammanahalli is a great place for momos.

Public list with all these places marked here - https://www.google.com/maps/placelists/list/1SqX6DpdcKTv5ezBKenJTpUKtV50?hl=en

Thank you for sharing, @user_not_found .

This is useful for everyone who would like to spend a day or several in Bangalore.

I’m merging your post with First time visit Indian - Bangalore. There it will be a better fit.
