First Starbucks in the World - at Pike Place in Seattle

If you are a coffee lover, especially a fan of Starbucks, visiting the birthplace of Starbucks in Pike Place area of Seattle is quite the experience.

When I was here on a sunny afternoon in June 2023, the line was daunting with about an hour wait time.

Since the place is small with no place to sit down, I simply enjoyed the coffee roaming outside in the Pike Marketplace, like everyone else.

You can also get Starbucks memorabilia in this shop.

They have opened an extension at the corner of the Pike marketplace and this outlet is a lot bigger.

This too is the original Starbucks, yes…! the first ever Starbucks in the world.

It is virtually a tourist hotspot and I noted that the entrance was accessible for the differently abled.

The service was impressive, and the staff were extremely helpful. They offered clear instructions on ordering procedures.

They also have a wall painted in mural style with the number 1971 serving as a photo point and selfie point.

Adjacent to this is a shelf with an entire range of Starbucks merchandise for sale.

How to Reach

The world’s Starbucks was bang opposite the Green Tortoise Hostel where I stayed.

So, I simply crossed the street to enter the cafe.

Read my previous post on how to reach the Pike Marketplace from the Seattle Airport for $3

Where to Stay

I stayed in the Green Tortoise Hostel that was studded with features, yet very economical rates.

Hello, dear @TusharSuradkar ,

Basically, I’m a tea-totaller… Well, many of the international trips, I have sheltered under Starbucks and McDonald’s, many times… So, seeing this post - I have mixed feelings… once side my hungry days…& on the other hand… beautiful time even with my family and friends…

The 4th photo in your post looks familiar… nice too… Seattle is a place where I stayed with a family friend for a couple of days…or might have seen the shot in some write up…1971 & Starbucks…

Merchandise, as usual should be costly… right?

Oh…about an hour waiting? :hushed:

Here in India, Coffee Day…we spend hours together…

Enjoyed your, one of the brief posts… But, truly enjoyed it.

“They have opened an extension at the corner of the Pike marketplace”

Did you visit this extension?

“the staff were extremely helpful. They offered clear instructions on ordering procedures…”

Ohh…is it so technical? Just my doubt…

Lucky, you stayed so close… your coffee didn’t COST MORE… :+1:

Thanks, also for your mention about the :wheelchair: .

And, sad that you forgot to tag me…(just joking) - kindly do TAG me.

All the best…

Hi @ShailendraOjha

Thank you for the several tags in your posts,

However, I stay away from replying to queries which only Google Moderators can.

Connect moderators like me are not the ones who can solve it.

Sometime, even Google Moderators also do not have an immediate answer since the problem is deep rooted in the software or platform and can only be resolved by the Google Development team.

Trust me, all such posts especially those where moderators are tagged are noticed and forwarded to those who can solve those.

But responding to those queries may not happen.

Connect moderators like me and more experienced ones like @NareshDarji bhai can answer ‘How To’ questions but definitely not ‘Why not’ type of questions

Wow…! that is so nice to know @AnubhaBangia .

We have one Starbucks just next to my house in Pune, but I never bothered to even peek inside.

I still love my filtered coffee made at home and I sometime carry it in a thermos flask.

Instant coffee is also something I do have a taste for.

I went here just as a tourist place and bought a Latte Coffee too - my first Starbucks or for that matter any coffee outside home too.

When I was living in Gurugram for 4 years until 2022 my friend took me to the Starbucks in MGF Mall on the Mehrauli road, I ordered Hot Chocolate

No problem dear @TusharSuradkar now issue is resolved & thank you so much dear you notice my issue. :sparkles: :sparkles: & By the way We are true Bhartiya that is why we live an Bhartiya life. When I was young, I had read somewhere that Starbucks is one of the best coffee shops in the world, because I was fond of coffee since childhood and my father always brought a pack of Nestle coffee for me. So since then I had in my mind that I will taste Starbucks also. Later I came to know that Starbucks was taken over by Tata, so now Starbucks is everywhere, So now whenever I go to a Starbucks outlet, if there is a new coffee mug or tumbler, I buy it. :sparkles: :sparkles:

That is true @TusharSuradkar , home coffee or home tea is beyond world experience. But, yes when going out for some work or shopping, a Starbucks coffee completes the trip!. That is great to know that you visited MGF mall, in Gurugram. Been a long long time. Now, Starbucks is not there in MGF mall, have scattered their outlets in new Gurugram in malls or as independent standalone units!

Wow… You were so lucky to be able to stay in the hostel across this very first Starbucks @TusharSuradkar

The place is kinda classic, I mean not as modern and spacious just like their Reserve version.

Did you try their coffee?

Starbucks fan @KarenVChin have you visited this Starbucks?

Thanks for sharing @Velvel this great post from @TusharSuradkar . I have not been to the very first Starbucks since I haven’t been in Seattle since I was maybe 10 or 12 years old  . So at that time, I wasn’t allowed or aware to drink coffee.

Cheers,

Karen

I somehow know you will write this @TusharSuradkar LOL… a visit to Seattle won’t be complete without visiting this very spot. And what a place, packed with memorabilias and mementos. I can see many people are still lining up for this. I have been collecting SB tumblers from across the world as well. You did the same thing, I suppose?

You should come back to Seattle and visit this very first Starbucks then @KarenVChin

And glad to see that you made it to the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Tokyo. If only I have more time, I’ll definitely join you guys.

How was it? What kind of drink and food you tried there?
