It has been much more than a year that Pineville, Louisiana was finally able to sell Beer, Wine, and Liquor. It has been a long time coming for people who had to cross the bridge into Alexandria for their simple pleasures.
Now that the dust has settled we can finally analyze the Culture here in Cenla, and it’s decades behind to say the least.
The first thing you will notice is the Drive Through Daquari shop, which upon my travels I realize is a Southern thing. At last count there are 6 Drive through Daquari shops. In a small town I call that overkill.
I was really hoping for a Martini Lounge or a Bourbon Bistro, maybe a high end wine shop with a tasting room or even a pub. But no, only Daquari shops.
The saving grace is the grocery stores selling wine and liquor. Unfortunately these are grocery stores and not liquor stores so the selection is shallow at best.
It’s a very dismal feeling to walk a liquor Isle and see no Absinthe or 20 Year old single malts. But the heart of my disgust is the grocery store wine selection.
People here drink what they know, i.e. Sutter Home, Rex Goliath, Woodbridge. And I feel above anything it is due to the lack of selection. My go to is a non vintage Italian wine, which happens to be under $5 a fifth! So I guess the moral of the story is that if we collectively stop buying California Swill we just may start seeing more Bordeauxs and Chilean Malbecs and Washington State Cab Franc. I Love this city but I loath the facts.
