Hello Google Maps Team & Community,
I would like to share a UI/UX concept I designed called “NEARBY”—an extension of Google Maps that transforms everyday navigation into an interactive, gamified community ecosystem.
While Google Maps is the world leader in point-to-point navigation, NEARBY aims to solve a crucial problem: How can we help people connect with their immediate neighborhood, local professionals, and emergency support in real time?
Key Feature Highlights:
-
1. Gamified Neighborhood Exploration: Turn city navigation into a fun, reward-based experience. Users earn XP, unlock badges, and level up by exploring new local places and completing community missions.
-
2. Verified Local Professionals & Neighbors: A consent-based directory to quickly connect with nearby doctors, teachers, police officers, and mechanics for immediate assistance.
-
3. One-Tap Emergency SOS Mode: Instant visual interface to reach nearby verified medical, fire, security, and vehicle repair services in critical situations.
-
4. Hyper-Local Community Hub: Built-in community boards for local updates, society chat groups, lost & found alerts, and local buy/sell listings.
-
5. Next-Gen Navigation (AR & Gemini AI): Real-time Augmented Reality (AR) camera overlays showing nearby services and seamless integration with Gemini AI for instant local query answers.
Why This Matters (The Impact):
-
Higher User Engagement: Gamification keeps local explorers engaged daily, improving map data accuracy through user contributions.
-
Community Safety: The rapid SOS mode and verified neighbor network turn Google Maps into a life-saving tool during emergencies.
-
Local Business Growth: Gamified discovery missions drive organic foot traffic to nearby small businesses.
