Feature Request: Add a Dark / Night Mode to Local Guides Connect

Hello Local Guides Connect team,

I’d like to suggest adding a Dark Mode / Night Mode option to the Local Guides Connect website.

Many users browse Connect for long periods, especially during the evening or at night. A dark interface could make the website more comfortable to use in low-light environments while also giving users more control over their preferred viewing experience.

:light_bulb: Proposed feature

Add a Night Mode toggle to the top-right area of the website, near the notification and profile icons.

Light Mode :sun:
The current interface remains unchanged.

Night Mode :crescent_moon:
The interface switches to a carefully designed dark theme with:

  • Dark navy/charcoal background
  • Light, readable typography
  • Darker cards and content panels
  • Appropriate contrast for links, buttons and icons
  • Blue accents consistent with the Local Guides Connect identity
  • Dark-mode treatment for menus, search, notifications and topic pages

Why I think this would be useful

A Night Mode would make Connect more comfortable to browse in low-light environments, especially for Local Guides who check the community in the evening. It could also be a nice accessibility and personalization option without changing the existing Light Mode experience.

The feature could also remember the user’s preferred mode, so they don’t have to switch it every time they visit Connect. An additional “Follow system theme” option could automatically match the user’s device settings.

I’ve included a simple visual concept of how Night Mode could look on Connect. The idea is to keep the familiar Connect interface while giving users an easy way to switch to a darker experience.

What do you think, fellow Local Guides? Would you like to see a Night Mode on Local Guides Connect?
