I have tried making data corrections to google maps in my area, and they all seem to fail with the same “Google couldn’t verify your edit” and a status of Not Applied. My example is a contractor who has located his business in the middle of a historic cemetery. It is obviously wrong, google search finds no specific address for me to submit as a correction, and saying it does not exist is getting the above reply. Is there a better way to handle issues like these?
Hi @DBurelsmith
I would try a reverse look up of the phone number. If it does not give a usable address then I would try to remove it again as spam. Since the business in not claimed it should be straight forward to remove it.
If unsuccessful, please ask a friend with local knowledge to give it a try.
Cheers
Morten
If you switch to the regular maps view instead of the satellite view, that gives a hint at what might have happened here: the location is shown as an approximate location (because there is no house number entered for this business, only a street name) whereby the size of the pink circle is determined by the beginning and end of the street. The cemetery happens to lie in the middle of that circle, so that seems to be more accidentally placed than on purpose.
Most likely scenario: this POI was originally added to Maps by some import from a business directory, and is at the moment no longer in business. Doing a search on the business name or telephone number does not give any results (apart from this Maps listing), so that also hints to the fact that the business might have been somewhere along that road, but is no longer there.
You could try removing it by selecting “No longer exists” from the list of reasons.
JanVanHaver,
Thank you for the explanation, I should have noticed the lack of house number. I don’t see a No Longer Exists option, other than permanently closed. Is this what you are suggesting? Image shows the option I used.
Yes @DBurelsmith that’s the one I meant - I have my app in Dutch, so I made a bad translation ![]()
One more thing which is quite important here on the forum: if you want to make sure that another Connect user sees a reply you give, make sure to ‘tag’ them by typing the ‘@’ symbol and then select that user from the list (or start typing the name if there is no list).

Hello! Thank you for sharing this. My home address was accurate on Google Maps, but about 8 months ago something happened and now my address takes you somewhere several miles away. It has affected several orders, and I am no longer giving my address to people who use Google Maps. I have tried correcting it several times, but it is not working. Can you help?
